Euro 2024 Fantasy Preview: Matchday 7 Tips and Top Captaincy Picks for the Final

Soccer - Euro 2024, fantasy preview

The FPL Manual shares insights on the best Euro 2024 fantasy tips, top captaincy picks, and recommended players ahead of Matchday 7.

The fiery Croatians were eliminated in the group stage, but newcomers Georgia stunned Portugal to reach the Round of 16. The recently concluded UEFA Euro 2024 semi-finals produced memorable moments, such as Ollie Watkins' late goal against the Netherlands, which secured England's spot in the finals. We've also witnessed Lamine Yamal's strike against France, which made him the youngest player ever to score in Euro history.

RotoBaller remains your most reliable source for fantasy news worldwide, and the UEFA Euro 2024 final is just a few hours away. In this article, we'll look at the top fantasy tips to consider, providing insights into what to expect ahead of Matchday 7 matchups using statistics and metrics.

The main event on July 14 will occur at the Olympiastadion Berlin, offering "La Roja" Spain a chance to become record four-time champions or the Three Lions, England, their first-ever European championship. Join me, the FPL Manual, as we explore the top captaincy picks and fantasy team recommendations for the Euro final.

UEFA Euro 2024: Road to Final

A total of 50 matches have been played in the tournament, with significant moments in each group and the knockout phases. However, how did our two finalists perform thus far;

Spain

Spain is the only team to top their group with a 100 percent record against Croatia, Italy, and Albania. They have demonstrated their dominance throughout the tournament. They defeated Georgia 4-1, host Germany 2-1, and title contenders France 2-1, overcoming every "tough" opponent encountered in Germany.

The genius manager Luis De La Fuente has masterfully blended tiki-taka with high pressing, placing the scoring responsibilities in the hands of wide players like Nico Williams and Lamine Yamal and encouraging contributions from the midfielders.

Spain currently leads the tournament in goals scored (13), has created 21 big chances, averages 2.2 goals per match, and has secured three clean sheets.

England

Similarly, the Three Lions finished top in Group D, defeating Denmark, Slovenia, and Serbia. England's boss, Gareth Southgate, faced criticism for his reliance on a consistent lineup and managing only narrow victories in the group stage.

Responding to these criticisms, Southgate shifted to a back three in the knockout stage. This tactical change helped England defeat Slovakia 2-1, overcome Switzerland 5-3 on penalties, and secure a 2-1 victory against the Netherlands.

Statistically, England has scored seven goals in the tournament, created 11 big chances, averaged 1.2 goals per game, and kept two clean sheets.

Matchday 7 Euro Fantasy Tips

Target Players Vying for The Golden Boot Award

As the competition comes to a close this weekend, a few players remain in contention for the Golden Boot award. Currently, six players are joint leaders on the scoring charts, but most have been knocked out, leaving only Spain's Dani Olmo and England captain Harry Kane with three goals each.

Fabian Ruiz of Spain and Jude Bellingham of England are not far behind with both players on two goals scored and would fancy a chance of getting on the scoresheet in the final. Euro fantasy managers are advised to bring any of the goal contenders into their team if you have neither of them already.

Matchday 7 Top Captain Picks

Lamine Yamal (€6.6m) - Spain

Celebrating his 17th birthday today, Lamine Yamal has already broken records and created new ones on Europe's biggest stage. Yamal has made the most key passes (16), is currently at the top of the assist charts with three assists, has produced an expected assist of 1.8 xA, and ranks third for most progressive carries (29).

With Spain aiming for a record fourth championship on Sunday and considering his MVP moment in the semi-finals, Lamine Yamal is the favorite for the captain's armband in this Euro final.

Harry Kane (11m) - England

Successfully converting a penalty against the Netherlands, Harry Kane scored his third goal of the contest, bringing his tally to seven goals for England in the UEFA Euro Championship.

Kane has put himself back in the race for the Golden Boot award and could get on the score sheet against title contenders Spain. The England captain is highly projected to have a goal involvement of 0.37 xGI, making him a solid option for captaincy this weekend.

Dani Olmo (€7.6m) - Spain

Three goals scored, two assists, 34 points in Euro Fantasy, 4.0 shots per 90 minutes, and a leading non-penalty goals and assists tally of 1.32 in UEFA Euro 2024.

Despite not starting most games during the group stage, Dani Olmo has been sensational for Spain during the knockout stage, becoming the first Spanish player to score in three consecutive games at a major tournament.

Olmo is on a hot streak and will capitalize on his consistency to help Spain become champions. He will be a popular pick for captaincy for Matchday 7.

It's worth noting that Euro Fantasy managers can change captains daily during each gameweek. However, since this is the grand finale, managers won't have the opportunity to swap captains. Choose your captain wisely, and feel free to select any other top captain option that is not mentioned above.

Prospective Transfers Moves for Matchday 7

Approaching the final day of the UEFA Euro campaign, fantasy managers are only allowed to bring in five players. To this extent, it limits the selection made, especially for folks like myself who have at least three or more France and Netherlands players who have been knocked out.

Which player do I target for the final?

Spain: I expect a good number of managers to have Fabian Ruiz or Nico Williams selected, and here are my top five picks for the final: Lamine Yamal, Rodri, Dani Olmo, Marc Cucurella, and Dani Carvajal.

England: Assuming most managers already have Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham on their fantasy teams, here are the top-five picks from England: Bukayo Saka, Phil Foden, Marc Guehi, Declan Rice, and Jordan Pickford.

If you still have any wildcard or limitless chips left, now could be a perfect time to use them and get in those recommended players from Spain and England to bolster your fantasy team.
