Eduardo Nunez (3B, SS, NYY) - Waiver Wire Pickups

BALLER MOVE: Continue Scouting

ANALYSIS: Entering the season, the 26-year-old was handed (not earned) the starting shortstop role, thanks to a Derek Jeter injury. Being given a prime opportunity to prove himself as a regular, Nunez failed to take advantage. In an April to be forgotten, he batted a putrid .203 with a 13/7 K/BB ratio. A ribcage injury in early May put Nunez on the shelf for the next two months, closing his opportunity window indefinitely. In the first 20 days since returning from the DL on July 6, Nunez performed as a top-15 shortstop. He recorded four multi-hit games and raised his batting average by 23 points. Since then, however, Nunez has gone just 1-14 at the plate and to make matters worse, Jeter is healthy again. A coming-out party as an everyday player may never come to fruition, but the possibility still remains. The utility man offers solid stolen base potential (1 SB in every 7.1 AB), but still needs to improve his on-base skills (.309 career OBP).
