DraftKings, FanDuel Daily Fantasy Baseball Picks (8/17/22): Today's Top MLB DFS Lineups

Max Scherzer - Fantasy Baseball Rankings, MLB Injury News, DFS and Betting Picks

The top daily fantasy baseball lineup picks for FanDuel and DraftKings on August 17th, 2022. Juan Carlos Blanco's MLB DFS analysis and sleepers for building optimal DFS rosters.

Welcome back to another edition of the FREE DraftKings and FanDuel MLB DFS picks. As customary, we have an all-day ledger on tap Wednesday, and although DraftKings does not have a full-day slate, FanDuel does. Consequently, today's article will feature picks on both sites for games throughout the day, as even on DK, the suggestions will prove viable for someone playing one of the site's split slates.

It's a solid day on the pitching front, with one of the elite arms in all of MLB drawing a matchup he's already thrived in previously and two other hurlers in good spots. There are also some targetable pitchers taking the hill, so assembling some very appealing hitters and identifying two potentially profitable stacks was a fairly straightforward process as well.

This article will provide my daily fantasy baseball lineup picks for FanDuel and DraftKings on 8/17/2022 that includes a FanDuel main slate locking at 1:10 pm ET. The lineup will range from some elite players to mid-priced options and value plays. You can also read more DFS advice and lineup picks for other sports. It's also essential to monitor injury news and today's MLB starting lineups. If you have any questions or comments, find me on Twitter and ask away!

DraftKings, FanDuel Pitchers - MLB DFS Lineup Picks

Max Scherzer -P, NYM at ATL ($11,100 DK, $11,500 FD)

Scherzer never needs much justification as a lineup suggestion, but there are some metrics that back up ponying up the investment for him Wednesday. The legendary right-hander's 8-2 record, 1.93 ERA, 0.93 WHIP, 11.0 K/9, and career-low 0.70 HR/9 all speak volumes. So does Scherzer's super-charged ability miss bats on the road, where he sports an 11.9 K/9 across 50 innings.

Additionally, Mad Max has done nothing but give the Braves fits both times he's faced them this season, allowing one earned run on seven hits over 14 innings while generating a sparkling 20:0 K:BB in the process. Atlanta has been a dangerous opponent for visiting righties since the All-Star break, but Scherzer has held current Braves bats to a collective .155/.186/.266 slash line across 195 career plate appearances.

Mike Clevinger - P, SDP at MIA ($7,900 DK, $8,500 FD)

Clevinger makes for an interesting value option if footing the bill for Scherzer is out of the realm of possibility. The right-hander owns just a 4-4 record, but he also has a solid 3.47 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, and .290 wOBA allowed, and he's surrendering a career-low 26.2 percent hard-contact rate.

Despite having surrendered five earned runs over 4.2 innings against what might be the best lineup in baseball in the Dodgers two starts ago, Clevinger still sports a 3.03 ERA and 1.11 WHIP over the 29.2 innings covering his last five outings. The Marlins make for a good matchup for Clevinger as well, as Miami has a .217/.280/.314 slash line, NL-low .266 wOBA, and NL-worst -12.6 wRAA against right-handers at home since the All-Star break.

Other options: Cal Quantrill - P, CLE vs. DET ($7,000 DK, $8,300 FD)

DraftKings, FanDuel Infielders - MLB DFS Lineup Picks

Paul Goldschmidt - 1B, STL vs. German Marquez ($5,700 DK, $4,700 FD)

Goldschmidt is always an excellent option against left-handed pitching, but he's very much in play Wednesday despite the matchup against a right-hander in Marquez. To begin with, Goldy has been a terror at Busch Stadium, posting a .357 average, 1.140 OPS, .479 wOBA, and 220 wRC+. Those figures check in at a respective .342, 1.077, .456, and 201 when split out for his work against righties at home, and he also boasts a .405 average, 1.299 OPS, and seven extra-base hits against Marquez over 40 plate appearances.

For his part, Marquez has been much better on the road than at Coors Field, but he's pitched to a .269 BAA and .332 wOBA in 24 second-half innings and has been partly bailed out when traveling by a .247 BABIP despite a middling 6.34 K/9 and 4.07 BB/9.

Brendan Rodgers - 2B, COL at Jordan Montgomery ($5,300 DK, $3,100  FD)

Rodgers makes for an intriguing and likely lower-rostered option on the other side of the Rockies-Cardinals clash, despite the matchup against a quality pitcher in Montgomery. Rodgers has been excellent against southpaws all season, producing a .326 average, .908 OPS, .394 wOBA, and 141 wRC+ in that split. While a good chunk of his success versus lefties has come at Coors, Rodgers went into Tuesday night with a blistering .333/.397/.490 slash line and .384 wOBA in August.

Then, although Montgomery has been very good overall this season, he's notably allowed a .270 average, .790 OPS, 5.11 FIP, and .344 wOBA to right-handed hitters on the road, with Busch Stadium counting as an away venue for all practical purposes since Yankee Stadium was the lefty's home park until two starts ago.

Carlos Correa - SS, MIN vs. Daniel Lynch ($4,600 DK, $3,200 FD)

Correa has been excellent against left-handed pitching at home, where he's tagged southpaws for a .323 average, .894 OPS, and .404 wOBA, along with 40.0 percent line-drive and hard-contact rates. The veteran shortstop also went into Tuesday night swinging a red-hot bat, as he sported a .310 average, .859 OPS, .383 wOBA, and 154 wRC+ across 55 August plate appearances.

Lynch shapes up as a tantalizing target for the slugger, as he's pitched to a .277 BAA and .332 wOBA in opposite-handed matchups, and he's surrendered a .429 average to Correa over 15 career encounters. Correa also happens to be an excellent hitter against Lynch's most-often-thrown pitch, the four-seam fastball, posting a .852 OPS, .373 wOBA, and 158 wRC+ against an offering Lynch has allowed a .278 average on and achieved just an 18.9 percent strikeout rate with.

Jose Ramirez - 3B, CLE vs. Daniel Norris ($5,600 DK, $4,200  FD)

Ramirez is enjoying another impressive season overall, and he draws an excellent matchup in Norris, who's pitched to a .393 wOBA, 6.97 BB/9, 2.6 HR/9, and 7.18 FIP against right-handed hitters on the road despite a .250 BABIP in that split. Norris is also yielding a career-high 12.0 percent barrel rate and has a career-high 14.5 percent walk rate overall, and Ramirez went into Tuesday's action with a .340 wOBA at home.

He's been partly held back by an atypically low .238 BABIP when facing southpaws at Progressive Field; however, his career .348 average against Norris in 25 career plate appearances and respective wOBAs of .385, .328, and .339 against Norris' top three pitches -- the four-seam, slider, and changeup -- help support the notion of a successful night Wednesday.

Other options: Francisco Lindor - SS, NYM at Jake Odorizzi ($6,000 DK, $3,600 FD); Corey Seager - SS, TEX vs. Adam Oller ($5,100 DK, $3,700 FD)

DraftKings, FanDuel Outfielders - MLB DFS Lineup Picks

Adolis Garcia - TEX vs. Adam Oller ($4,200 DK, $3,800 FD)

Garcia always carries some nice power upside, especially when facing an inconsistent right-hander in Oller, who's pitched to a 2.1 HR/9 on the road. The righty-swinging Garcia has been especially dangerous in same-handed matchups, slugging 15 of his 19 homers on the season against righties and producing a .337 wOBA and .205 ISO in that split. Oller has pitched to a .310 BAA, .396 wOBA, and 6.02 xFIP against right-handed hitters as well, and he's generated an abysmal 2.8 K/9 and 5.6 BB/9 in 9.2 innings across two starts in August.

Teoscar Hernandez - TOR vs. Austin Voth ($5,200 DK, $3,500 FD)

Hernandez is a slugging outfielder who's been dangerous in his home park, where he's posted a .271 average, .867 OPS, .371 wOBA, and 8.9 wRAA in 184 plate appearances. The righty masher has a .371 wOBA .243 ISO and 141 wRC+ at home against right-handed pitching, along with a 21.1 percent HR/FB rate and massive 48.5 percent hard-contact rate.

Voth makes for a great target for him, as the veteran righty has pitched to a .296 average, .361 wOBA, 2.1 HR/9, and 5.11 FIP in same-handed matchups on the road. Voth has also conceded an elevated 25.0 percent HR/FB rate to right-handed hitters on the road, certainly a foreboding number when considering Hernandez's power bat.

Ian Happ -  CHC at Cory Abbott ($4,400 DK, $3,200 FD)

The switch-hitting Happ is one of the few bright spots for the Cubs this season, and he's an excellent candidate to deploy against a right-hander who's had trouble keeping the ball in the park in Abbott. The young Nationals hurler has allowed a .437 wOBA and 1.037 OPS to the 48 left-handed hitters he's faced thus far this season, along with a massive 3.7 HR/9 and 9.43 FIP.

Then, Happ has a solid body of work against right-handed pitching, generating a .347 wOBA and .800 OPS in that split. He's also slugged seven of his 12 homers on the season off righties on the road, and he owns a 1.010 OPS and .430 wOBA against the four-seam fastball, Abbott's most frequently thrown pitch.

Other options: Oscar Gonzalez - CLE vs. Daniel Norris ($3,500 DK, $2,700  FD); Julio Rodriguez, SEA vs. Touki Toussaint ($5,400 DK, $3,600 FD)
