DraftKings Daily Fantasy Basketball Advice (2/23/16): NBA DFS Lineup Picks

By Keith Allison [CC-BY-SA-2.0 (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/2.0)], via Wikimedia Commons

Sam Nedimyer highlights the top daily fantasy basketball lineup picks for 2/23/16. These are the top value and sleeper plays for your DraftKings NBA DFS lineups.

The Beard, the Brow, and Boogie are all out on Tuesday night. There’s about a 0.001% chance that all three will be on your DraftKings squad, but somehow, someway maybe two of those three can make it. You can do it, coach. You can do it all night long. I really hope you read that with “The Waterboy” mentality.

In this article, I will be providing you with Daily NBA picks for DraftKings for 2/23/16. The picks will range from some of the elite players, to mid-priced options, and value plays. Be sure to check out my podcast every Monday and Thursday right here at Rotoballer for all your DFS needs.

DraftKings DFS Point Guards

Damian Lillard (vs BKN, $9,600)

John Wall (vs NOP, $9,300)

Rajon Rondo (vs DEN, $8,600)

Could not for the life of me figure out which player stands out from the rest as a top cash game play. Lillard seems to be in the middle of his annual post-All Star Break vendetta against the rest of the Association for not making him an All Star. John Wall is having a do-it-all type year and it has been kind of under the radar. Rondo has been almost automatic for 15 assists a game over the last three weeks. They all have plus matchups and have been shouldering heavy loads for their respective squads. Given an absolute choice, Wall scores the most DraftKings points but Rondo brings back the highest return. Do with that information what you will.

Jrue Holiday (at WAS, $7,400)

I’m no NBA coach and I (most likely) will never be one, but what on earth could possibly possess Alvin Gentry to not play Holiday more than a mere 32 or so minutes per game? Or more appropriately, what else does Holiday have to do in order to get more minutes? When he and The Brow are on the floor, game statisticians can go ahead and pencil in Holiday-to-Davis in the box scores for the next 10 possessions. I would love to see Holiday get more run, but even still, he should have no problems taking advantage of Ramon Sessions and his 109 DRating on Tuesday.

Shelvin Mack (vs HOU, $3,600)

Perhaps the most underrated move at the trade deadline was the addition of Mack to the Utah Jazz. The dude can ball and will be a nice fit for the boring, snail-like pace, as evidenced by his 16 point, six assist, three rebound performance in 24 minutes in his Utah debut. Considering how so-so Raul Neto has performed, look for Mack to step in for some major minutes in the near future.

DraftKings DFS Shooting Guards

Victor Oladipo (at PHI $6,700)

We figured the departure of Tobias Harris would do wonders for Oladipo’s confidence, but boy has he really took off. Mr. Oladipo has returned at least 7x for his owners over the last two games, yet somehow his price has remained relatively stagnant. He is locked in at least 40 minutes every night. Tuesday night in Philly should be no different.

Gary Harris (vs SAC, $4,700)

If someone were to ask you to guess which guard on the Nuggets is averaging nearly 39 minutes per game over their last seven, would you respond with Will Barton? Barton is the logical answer, but the winner is actually Harris. Add his minutes plus Sacramento’s propensity to give up a ton of points to the opposing two guard- the Kings rank 30th of 30 teams- and making the case for Harris actually isn’t all that difficult.

DraftKings DFS Small Forwards

Gordon Hayward (vs HOU, $7,000)

The obvious top matchup of the day belongs to Hayward versus Trevor Ariza and the Houston Rockets. Ariza is a shell of the defensive stalwart he was just two years ago, while Hayward has consistently dropped DraftKings points in the mid-30s over his last six games. Secretly, I just want to see Hayward and Mack rekindle some of that Butler magic that worked oh so well for them just five years ago.

Maurice Harkless (vs BKN, $4,400)

No more. No more am I going to miss out on the Mo Train, which is speeding through the station. Harkless has gone for 42.75, 28.0, and 29.75 DraftKings points over his last three games, respectively. And while the show in Portland features Lillard and to a lesser extent C.J. McCollum as the main attractions, Harkless is beginning to show solid signs of a legit encore presentation.

DraftKings DFS Power Forwards

DeMarcus Cousins (at DEN, $11,200)

Anthony Davis (at WAS, $10,200)

If you can fit both of these guys in your lineup, then you’re cleverer than Daniel Craig’s character from “Layer Cake.” I am trying everything in my power for a DK squad that features both Boogie and Brow, but I just don’t think it’s possible. So pick one. Brow is coming off a 59/20 game and Boogie just lit up the Nuggets this past weekend with a 37/20 spot. The edge goes to AD, though. Cousins is averaging eight less true life points per game on the road than he is at home.

Thaddeus Young (at POR, $6,800)

Boring? Yup. But the dude has a pretty high floor against the weak, weak interior force the Trail Blazers will be throwing out on the court. The key right now is the minutes. He is smack dab in the middle of a nice rotation in which he is playing 38 minutes a game. Thad is as solid a bet as anyone to record a double-double on Tuesday night.

Aaron Gordon (at PHI, $6,300)

Just because the Sixers frontcourt gives up a ton of points. Plus, Gordon has yet to record a sub-31.5 DK fantasy point game over his last five, averaging 36.1 fantasy points during that span. It’s pretty clear that he is the guy that figures to benefit the most from Tobias Harris’s departure.

DraftKings DFS Centers

Rudy Gobert (vs HOU, $6,800)

The Stifle Tower has nine swats and 23 boards over the last two games. Although he is only averaging six field goal attempts per game this season. Gobert remains a fantasy factor just by his mere defense alone. His roster does come with some risk. Dwight Howard is someone that is capable of butchering opposing centers, even if those games are few and far between. Murphy’s Law suggest that Gobert is ripe to deliver a reckoning.

Jusuf Nurkic (vs SAC, $3,800)

There’s no telling what will happen in the Denver frontcourt. My best guess is that once a player stabilizes the center position- like Nikola Jokic and his 23/13 drubbing he put on Boston last game- then the backup should deliver a huge performance in Denver’s next game. There’s no science behind the explanation. Just mere crossing of the fingers. A Nurkic play could be a grand slam.
