Dorian Finney-Smith (SF/PF, DAL) - Week 7 Waiver Wire Pickups

BALLER MOVE: Add In 14-Team Leagues

OWNED IN: 6% of leagues

ANALYSIS: It's taken a few years and a couple of roster reshuffles, but Dorian Finney-Smith has finally earned a significantly higher role on the team in the form of increased playing time and an enhanced role. The former Florida Gator averaged just 20.3 and 21.3 minutes per game through his first two seasons with the Mavericks, but this year he has been bumped all the way up to 27.2 minutes per contest for the 8-9 Dallas squad, and he has made it easy to keep him on the floor that long with his vastly improved offensive efficiency. Finney-Smith has been shooting 56% from two-point range and a fantastic 42.2% from downtown, giving him an effective field goal-percentage of 60.1%. His previous career-highs in those departments were 48.1%, 29.9%, and 46.3% respectively. Finney-Smith doesn't contribute a whole lot statistically in the passing or defensive departments, and his strengths lie in scoring and rebounding as demonstrated by his nine points and four rebounds per game.

Impressively, even with his comparatively modest rebounding he still has an offensive rebounding-percentage of 7.5% ranks third on the team behind DeAndre Jordan and Dwight Powell, while his true shooting-percentage of 61.2% is fourth on the team behind players who mostly score on dunks and point-blank bunnies such as Jordan, Powell, and Salah Mejri. He may not be a particularly well-rounded forward, but he is an effective scorer and offensive rebounding asset who has really found laser-focus with his long-range shot. With Mark Cuban's club depending on him to eat up a good portion of floor time, Dorian Finney-Smith is a valuable acquisition in deeper leagues while he seems to be feeling his own shot more than anyone else in the Mavs lineup.
