Donte Moncrief (WR, JAX) - Week 12 Waiver Wire Pickups

Jaguars wide receiver (WR) Donte Moncrief is a waiver wire pickup and add target in leagues for Week 12 of the 2018 NFL season. Brady Grove recommends the Jacksonville deep-threat for his volume of targets from Blake Bortles and explosive big-play capability.

ANALYSIS: As unfortunately as things have been going for the Jacksonville Jaguars, 2018 has been a kind campaign to Donte Moncrief. So far this season Moncrief has led the team in targets with 63, and even though he is only third on the roster in receptions behind T.J. Yeldon and Dede Westbrook with 33, he impressively leads the team in total receiving yards with 488 off of an explosive 14.8 yards-per-reception. In also speaking towards his big-play capability, of his three receiving touchdowns on the year, only one came on a red-zone play while the two others came on big gains between the Jaguars 1-50 yard lines. In this past week's devastating loss to Pittsburgh, Moncrief had his first sub-par outing in some time with just one reception out of two targets for eleven yards. However, before that Moncrief had been on a solid three-week run in which he had averaged 4.7 receptions out of seven targets for 76 yards per game (that's 16.3 yards-per-reception).

Besides Moncrief, the Jaguars have deployed a cast of active pass-catchers like Yeldon, Westbrook, and Keelan Cole to fight over the shaky 244.5 yards per game of passing production from Blake Bortles. When you are a deep-threat wide receiver in an inconsistent air attack, there is a high likelihood that you will come up with a dud outing every once in a while when the stars don't align. That being said, Moncrief has still been a favorite target for Bortles throughout the season and even with a lower percentage of caught passes, his yards-per-reception means that he is doing damage whenever he gets a touch. In holding the lion's share of consideration from the quarterback out of the receiving core, Donte Moncrief is an excellent option proceeding forward for the Jaguars.
