Daily Slivers of the Fantasy Soapbox - Yesterday's Recap

Ellis Canady reviews last night's MLB box scores (8/27) and provides fun opinions on a variety of topics to help fantasy baseball owners with their lineups.

Welcome to the Wednesday, August 28th edition of Daily Slivers of the Fantasy Soapbox.

Discussing baseball is as fun as the game itself. It has a way of bringing people together to share different opinions about the sport we all love. A similar action can be done with fantasy baseball where we not only discuss topics but also look to improve our teams as well as the teams of our fellow fantasy baseball enthusiasts. Everyone has their own perspectives which are not to be cast off as frivolous. They should be used as a method of expanding our own knowledge.

In this article, I review the previous day's boxscores and provide my opinion on a variety of topics. Some will be random, some will be fun, and some will be stat-driven. It's a soapbox so I may rant from time to time as well. So without any further delay, below are my thoughts on August 28th. Enjoy them. You can even respond with your own thoughts on Twitter @EllisCan2.

Daily Musings

  • Patrick Corbin w/very good game (7IP, 2ER, 9K); The W was covered in oil and uncatchable.
  • Felipe Vázquez has more wins in August that any one of my starters the last seven weeks (@TGFBI). Ridiculous.
  • 3.4WAR. 144wRC+. Is no one surprised by only 59% ownership of Bryan Reynolds?
  • There’s Ken Giles(17SV).
  • Did everyone make the same face I did when Billy Hamilton started & went 2-for-2 w/SB?
  • Nick Senzel will have his Popeyes Chicken sandwich…Combo meal(11HR/14SB)
  • Aristides Aquino feeling frisky with his second SB.
  • Eugenio Suarez w/three-straight homer games. Tied for most HR in second half(17).
  • Luis Castillo gives you the tainted W. 6IP, 5ER, 11K….(it was against the Marlins. haha)
  • Franmil Reyes says, “Fine, I’ll play.” Four HR in three games.
  • Adam Plutko w/ a great streaming W. 5.2IP, 1ER, 9K.
  • Yu Darvish excellence continues. Since 31May: 3.61ERA(3.32FIP), 26.7%K-BB
  • Denied the combo meal, Javier Baez 29th HR was equally as delicious.
  • Did someone say Yadier Molina was getting old? Three taters in two games. 58% owned? Disrespectful.
  • Miles Mikolas brings in his 17.6%K rate; gets 10Ks vs Brewers.
  • Justin Verlander ejected in sixth. Easy W. Denied easy QS.
  • Yordan Alvarez w/two shooting stars(21). Can he seriously get to 30 w/o two-plus months of the season? 11.5%Brls/PA
  • Go ‘head Mr. Wendle. First long ball of the season for Joey Wendle.
  • Tim Anderson tries to finish strong. 14th laser shot.
  • Liam Hendriks gobbles another SV. Hendriks or Blake Treinen in 2020?
  • Thank you to Mike Montgomery for having a good game. 6.1IP, 1ER, 6K. Well done.
  •  Don’t get excited about Jackie Bradley Jr. (17th HR). It’s Coors.
  • Nolan Arenado w/nine refreshing silver bullets in last 15 days. Yes, he’s still a first-rounder, just at the end.
  • X gon give it to you. Xander Bogaerts w/28th bass drop.
  • Brandon Belt refuses to be pigeon-holed as a boring guy. He brings the speed(four).
  • Ketel Marte, congrats on 28th giant swing. Take care of that hamstring. 2B/OF. Get SS and I might pay up in 2020.
  • No run support for Andrew Heaney. Two-straight 10K+ games.
  • Christian Yelich. Like Roxane, you don’t need to sell your body to the night. Just work on baseball.
  • Fantasy baseball needs a lot more Aaron Judge in its life. Four cannon-shots in last five games.
  • You travel to a far land. You enjoy a nice walk about town after delving into some delicious local food. Suddenly the stomach disagrees. You scurry frantically from store to store looking for the loo. It cannot be held off any longer. Good has gone wrong. Cal Quantrill (4.1IP, 8ER, 3BB).
  • Walker Buehler has a sunny day on his walks. 6IP, 0ER, 11K.
  • Pete Alonso tries to force his way into the mix(42). Mike Trout (43), soured by the sight of a bright-eyed rookie, says goodbye to Cody Bellinger.
  • Have a great Wednesday. Nope, it's not half done or started. It's a day to make a decision and get it done.
  • No Fear, Just Fantasy.
