Daily Fantasy Hockey Cheat Sheet (10/18/16): NHL Lineup Picks

Chris Durell's daily fantasy hockey cheat sheets for FanDuel and DraftKings on 10/18/16. His NHL DFS lineup picks, sleepers and stacks for cash games and GPPs.

RotoBallers, welcome back to our daily fantasy hockey cheat sheets for FanDuel and DraftKings. Below you will find my NHL DFS lineup picks, sleepers and stacks for Tuesday, October 18th of the 2016/2017 NHL season. Tonight we have a big 12 game slate with four teams (SJ, PIT, OTT, COL) playing on back-to-back nights. This should have less of a factor so early in the season, but the data still can't be fully ignored.

For those that are new to this, each day we'll be providing you with a few of our top DFS lineup picks for daily league cash games on FanDuel, DraftKings, and FantasyAces. We will also provide you with one of our favorite teams to stack for GPPs. You can grab the rest of our Premium DFS lineup picks and stacks through the NHL Cheat Sheet and DFS Premium Pass below.

Editor's Note: New users that sign up on Fantasy Aces, make a $20 deposit, and enter any game will receive our full season NHL Premium Pass (DFS Cheat Sheets) for free, a $99.99 value. Just email [email protected] with your new FantasyAces username - and boom, that's it! We will email you with your Premium pass.

NHL Daily League Lineup Picks for Tuesday, October 18th

Alex Galchenyuk (C, MON)

DraftKings - $5,800, FanDuel - $5,900, FantasyAces - $5,100

He is one of the top value plays on the night as he comes in under $6K on all three sites. Galchenyuk plays on the Habs top line, on their top power play unit, and has picked up an assist in each of his first two games this season. Don't worry about the low shot total through two games, as he averaged over 14.5 shot attempts per 60 minutes last season.

Jonathan Drouin (W, TB)

DraftKings - $5,500, FanDuel - $5,500, FantasyAces - $4,800

Another excellent value play early in the season, who will likely see a DFS jump in salary over the next few weeks. Drouin proved his offensive upside for the Bolts in the playoffs while Steven Stamkos was out, and now he skates beside him on the top line. Drouin has already recorded three points in two games, while recording nine shots on goal. He has a high floor with with a ton of upside, and comes with a value price. He is an elite play in all formats.

P.K. Subban (D, NSH)

DraftKings - $6,200, FanDuel - $6,800, FantasyAces - $5,150

If you aren't one to pay up for defense, consider Subban in the next tier down. He comes at a nice discount, and has provided a similar floor and ceiling so far this season with his new team. Subban has picked up a point in each of the Preds first two games, and has added six shots and five blocks. He also gets a sneaky matchup vs. the Stars who allowed the 11th most goals per game (2.78) last season.

Stacking Option

Dallas Stars Top Line - Jamie Benn, Tyler Seguin, Patrick Eaves

They are usually pretty chalky, but shouldn't be over-owned on a 12 game slate with a ton of great options. The duo of Benn and Seguin are tops in the league when looking at upside, as both have Top 5 scoring potential when healthy. Benn finished second in points last season to Patrick Kane, while Seguin finished 14th playing just 72 games. Eaves is a great addition to the stack playing on the right wing - he comes with upside alongside the superstars, and comes at a low price.

Bonus: General NHL DFS Strategy Notes

For cash games, look at players who can contribute to your score even when they are not providing offense. Some examples are guys who take a ton of shots and defensemen who block a lot of shots. Also, look for guys who get power play time. You can find value in players who join a new line due to an injury, or just get a promotion and more ice time. It is also recommended to spread out your exposure to three or four different lines, and not put all your eggs in one basket.

For large field tournaments (GPPs), find payers who have multi-point upside and can grab double-digit fantasy points. If you want to stack the most upside in your forwards, a common strategy is to punt the defense position. This doesn't mean just grab anyone - try and look for a defenseman who will get power play time, or a playing time boost due to an injury. For a contrarian approach, paying up at the defense position can be a great strategy - but it also comes with more risk. GPPs bring a great opportunity for goaltenders in the value price range - you can look for backups on good teams.
