Daily Fantasy Baseball Analysis August 20: Late Night Value Menu - Deep Leagues

Khris Davis on April 1, 2013#1: I’ll have a Double Whopper with cheese, extra mayo; extra-large fries….and a DIET coke. Now that’s some good ole’ American reasoning there; the diet Coke makes those 2000 calories okay, right? Wrong! In another failure of irrationality, most people have turned a deaf ear to the Brewers' outfield since the loss of Ryan Braun. The suspension of the Hebrew Hammer has left a gaping hole in fantasy lineups, causing owners to look elsewhere for a replacement.  The funny thing is, you needn't look very far. Braun’s replacement has a familiar name with an unfamiliar spelling. Chris Davis has been mashing all season for the Orioles of Baltimore, while Khris Davis (with a K) has been mashing since taking over for Braun in the Brewers outfield. Khris Davis hit .350 with 15 homers and a 1.055 OPS through 260 at-bats last season during three different stops in the minors. Since taking over for the suspended Braun this season, all he’s done is hit .375 (12-for-32) with four homers, thirteen RBI and steal two bases. In fact, he’s homered in three of his last five starts and is batting .466 (7 for 15) during that span. Khris with a “K” is definitely worth an add in deep leagues while he’s hot and starting every day.

#2: The BK Double-Stack with “bacon.” I highly doubt it's real bacon, and I highly doubt this next player is going to be for real for much longer, but he’s been hitting and on the hottest team in baseball. That’s right, folks, it’s Juan Uribe. Uribe resembles a double stack. The stout, beer-league looking Dodgers' third baseman has a swell tummy and also is swinging a hot bat. Uribe is hitting .351 (20 for 57) in August with little power to show for it but he’s been known to get hot and put the ball over the wall. If you need corner infield help in deeper leagues you may want to give "Andale, andale! Uribe!, Uribe!"  a shot!

AL Hot Shots

  • Mark Trumbo is currently en fuego. Trumbo has mashed three Trum-bombs in three consecutive games and is six for his last 13 with a triple, three bombs and eight RBI.
  • Jarrod Parker twirled his first career complete game against the Mariners on Monday. He struck out eight and scattered eight hits while walking none.
  • Xander Bogaerts has been promoted by the Red Sox and will be up for the long haul. He’s projected to receive everyday at-bats and could carry minor value going into September.
  • Albert Pujols will be shut down for the remainder of the season in a move which probably should have been made before the season started. Pujols was hobbled by all sorts of issues and still managed a .258 average with 17 HR and 64 RBI over 391 at-bats. He should be a nice buy low candidate in next year’s drafts.
  • Jon Lester stepped up with 8.1 shutout innings as the Red Sox owned the Giants 7-0 Monday.
  • Brandon Moss smacked a walk-off solo homer to help the A’s edge the Mariners.
  • A.J. Pierzynski went 4-for-5 with a homer, a double and four RBI in a rout of the Astros.
  • Matt Wieters went 3-for-5 and hit his 16th homer against the Rays on Monday.

NL Hot Shots

  • Nate Schierholtz went off and crushed two homers and knocked in six RBI; he now has 18 homers which is a career high.
  • Donnie “bleeping” Murphy hit a pair of homers in the Cubs' destruction of the Nats on Monday. He’s been producing quite well for the Cubs and now has six bombs and a .318 average over 13 games at third base for Chicago.
  • Jose Fernandez went all “Jose Fernandez” and owned the Dodgers on Monday tossing six strong innings allowing two earned and striking out eight to defeat Hyun-Jin Ryu.
  • Giancarlo Stanton uncorked a laser bomb to straight-away center field hitting that weird statue thing in Marlins Park for his 15th homer of the season. One of the best sluggers in baseball has had a disappointing and injury plagued 2013 campaign.
  • John Mayberry Jr. hit a three-run homer Monday in the Phillies' 5-4 victory over the Rockies.
  • Troy Tulowitzki went 2-for-3 with a homer and a walk against the Phillies on Monday. He had a “rough” August hitting .278 but his .400 OBP this month and .315 overall average show that he’s still the best hitting SS in baseball.
  • Brian Wilson was activated by the Dodgers Monday. He threw 4.1 scoreless innings in the minors before his recall.
  • FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Mets plan to keep Travis d'Arnaud as their primary catcher.
  • Tim Lincecum allowed five runs, nine hits over five terrible innings versus the Red Sox. Timmeh!
