Collin Sexton (PG, CLE) - Week 4 Waiver Wire Pickups

BALLER MOVE: Add In 14-Team Leagues

OWNED IN: 39% of leagues

ANALYSIS: It has hardly been an ideal start to his rookie-season for Collin Sexton, the former star of the Alabama Crimson Tide who was drafted eighth-overall by the Cleveland Cavaliers this past summer. In 23 minutes per game Sexton has averaged just 2.3 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 0.5 steals per game while shooting an abysmal 30% from three-point range with an equally sub-par effective field goal percentage of 42.1%. In response, the veteran members of the 1-9 Cavaliers have lashed out at Sexton, saying he, "doesn't know how to play" (seems harsh after just ten professional games under his belt). Despite the gap-ridden stat-line and the claims of his locker room critics, there is still plenty of hope remaining for the rest of Sexton's rookie campaign.

With Kevin Love out of the picture for a considerable amount of time, Sexton currently ranks fifth on the team in scoring with 10.5 points per contest. While he has struggled to just nine combined points in 36 minutes over the Cavaliers' last two games, he had been on quite a pretty run leading up to that. Between October 24th and November 1st, Sexton averaged 13.8 points per game as well as grabbing 14 total boards, dishing out 15 total assists, and nabbing four total steals over that five-game stretch. As far as receiving his share of the work load moving forward out of the Cleveland back court, he is currently only really behind George Hill, Rodney Hood, and Jordan Clarkson. While his teammates are giving him a cold dose of tough love for the time being, the Cavs have all season to be patient with Sexton as they chase yet another #1 overall draft pick. He has already demonstrated his scoring ability at the pro level and has yet to truly show off his athletic abilities. With more experience and some rounding out of his game, Collin Sexton could still go on to do big things as a rookie, and he is already an asset of value in deeper leagues.
