Chance Sisco (C, BAL) - Week 17 Waiver Wire Pickups

BALLER MOVE: Add in Two-Catcher Leagues

OWNED IN: 12% of leagues

ANALYSIS: We're not referencing the "Thong Song", we're talking about Sisco of the Chance variety, and he is a former highly-touted prospect having an excellent season in the majors for the bottom-dwelling Baltimore Orioles. The 24-year-old backstop has torn up the opposition this season at Triple-A Norfolk to the tune of ten home runs and a .292/.388/.530 slash in 168 AB, and has been more impressive (on the power-heavy side) at the MLB level with five homers and a slash of .267/.375/.573 across a limited but telling 75 AB.

He strikes out way more than you'd like to see at 33% and he is extremely slow (even for catchers), but other than that he possesses every other plate-discipline and batted ball tendency that supports the image of an offensively astute catcher. He has eyed the zone well with an 11.4% walk rate, and he has hit for 43.5% hard contact and 13% soft contact on a combined 65.2% line drives and fly balls (catapulted at a launch angle of 18.3 degrees). With that level of disbursement and high-quality use of his time at the plate, Chance Sisco has immediately carved out an image for himself as an asset for Baltimore's future. Even in taking the field for a last-place club, the playing time going forward solidifies the value of Sisco in the final months of the season, and he can be a splash of energy at the catcher position in deeper formats.
