Brice Turang

The Milwaukee Brewers recalled infielder Brice Turang from the club’s Triple-A affiliate on Thursday, per a tweet from the National League Central organization’s official Twitter account:

Turang, a first-round pick in the 2018 draft, made his Major League debut earlier this season, appearing in 58 games for the Brewers.

In those 58 games, the infielder hit .206 with a .254 on-base percentage, three home runs, and nine stolen bases in 181 plate appearances.

The 23-year-old didn’t bring much in the way of power production. In addition to just the three home runs, he also managed just a .566 OPS, a .316 xSLG, and a 3.4% barrel rate. The xSLG and barrel rate ranked in the third and ninth percentile respectively.

Though that being said, Turang did provide quality stolen base production and could continue to do so provided he can start games on at least a somewhat regular basis. In addition to the nine stolen bases, the 23-year-old also ranked in the 95^th percentile in Statcast’s sprint speed metric.

Able to play both middle infield spots, Turang should back up starter Willy Adames at shortstop. Moving forward, it’ll certainly be interesting to see how much playing time the rookie gets at second base. Milwaukee has primarily used Owen Miller there and has Andruw Monasterio on hand on the active roster.

Miller is batting .284 with a .327 on-base percentage, four home runs, and nine stolen bases in 223 plate appearances this season, though he’s also seen significant playing time at third base, first base, and in left field.

Monasterio, meanwhile, is batting .233 with a .340 on-base percentage, a home run, and a pair of stolen bases in 50 plate appearances so far in the Majors this season.
