Hi RotoBallers, and thanks for joining me here for Super Bowl LIV! It's been a great season and I really appreciate you spending some time with me throughout it. Each year, all roads lead to the Super Bowl and that's where we find ourselves this week. This game feels right, as Kansas City and San Francisco have steadily been two of the best teams in the NFL this year. The matchup is an interesting one...we have a San Fran team that wants to relentlessly run the ball and dominate on defense, while KC is practically the polar opposite and is one of the most explosive offensive teams we've ever seen. This unique clash of styles is made even more intriguing by the fact that we must adjust to DraftKings' Showdown Captain Mode that will be in effect for this game.
These DraftKings DFS lineup recommendations are based on matchups, projected ownership, overall upside/talent levels, opportunity, and other factors such as Vegas odds, home-field advantage, and more. DraftKings DFS Captain Position - Super Bowl Picks
Patrick Mahomes - SF @ KC ($18,900)
We might as well discuss the elephant in the room. Patrick Mahomes is the highest-priced player on this slate and he will also be the most popular 'Captain' selection. It's hard to argue with him...he's continually posted monster numbers since taking over for the Chiefs last year. He'll face a rugged Niners defense that allowed the fourth-fewest passing yards in the NFL to opposing QBs this season, not to mention San Fran's Nick Bosa-led pass rushing attack. Despite the difficult matchup, Mahomes has often proven himself to be matchup proof and he is the most likely player in this game to post a monster fantasy line.
Raheem Mostert - SF @ KC ($14,100)
If you want to pivot away from Mahomes and the Chiefs at the Captain spot, my favorite Niner is running back Raheem Mostert. He's not without risk, as there's a legitimate chance that Tevin Coleman swipes some work if healthy. Those concerns aside, Mostert has proven himself to be extremely efficient with a sporadic workload. He ranked first in the NFL this season among backs with a minium of 100 carries at 5.6 YPC. The matchup doesn't get much better than this, as KC ranked 30th in the league in DK points allowed to the RB position and relinquished a healthy 4.83 yards per carry to RBs this year.
George Kittle - SF @ KC ($12,600)
If you want to take something of an untraditional route at the Captain position, San Fran's George Kittle is an intriguing option. The Chiefs have been vastly improved in defending the pass this season, but slowing down opposing TEs has been something of an Achilles heel for this KC defense. The Chiefs ranked 28th in the NFL this season in both DK Points and receiving yards allowed to the TE position. Kittle is certainly a very explosive player that is fully capable of taking advantage of KC's lacking coverage if given the opportunity. He's been quiet during the postseason, but the Niners have been able to run the football almost at will. Volume is the issue with this play, but it's not hard to envision San Fran being forced to play catch up in this matchup against an explosive Chiefs offense.
DraftKings DFS Flex Position - Super Bowl Picks
Jimmy Garoppolo - SF @ KC ($8,000)
It's not often that a QB can be considered a "risky" play in Showdown formats, but it's safe to give Jimmy G that label here. The Niners signal caller has attempted a grand total of 27 passes in San Fran's two postseason games. We know this offense wants to run the ball, but as we mentioned when talking about George Kittle, there is a chance that the Niners will be forced to keep pace with this high-powered KC attack. Garoppolo hasn't been asked to carry this offense often, but he's popped for three 30-plus point games on DK this season.
Sammy Watkins - SF @ KC ($7,000)
It's hard to ignore a player like Tyreek Hill, but his price and projected popularity make him a prime fade candidate. How many times over the years have we seen a team's other receiver shine in Super Bowls? Kansas City's secondary target Sammy Watkins catches the eye, as a player with a reasonable DFS price tag and game-breaking ability. Watkins received 10 targets against Tennessee in the AFC Championship game, converting for 114 yards and a TD on seven catches. It's possible that Watkins could once again be the benefactor of a defensive game plan geared toward stopping Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce.
Harrison Butker - SF @ KC ($4,200)
The first kicker of the year! I don't usually get to talk about these guys, but I'm dropping Butker in here as a sneaky little option. The Chiefs kicker has truly been a weapon for this team throughout the season, finishing the year with the most field goals in the league. We know this offense is high-powered, but this sturdy San Fran unit that's ranked second in the NFL in pass efficiency defense could halt some drives this week, which would make Butker a busy man.
