Astros Top Prospect Carlos Correa To Be Promoted Today

Jose de Jesus Ortiz of the Houston Chronicle reports that the Astros have called up top prospect Carlos Correa to the majors, and he will be ready to play today against the Sox.

Correa, 20, is the number one prospect in the Astros system, and is number two in the league behind the Twins' Byron Buxton. Houston, who has been a surprise en route to their current standing atop the AL West, has had productivity issues at shortstop all season. Marwin Gonzalez, the current starter, is batting only .227 on the year. Jonathan Villar, has not produced off the bench with only 7 RBI in 91 at-bats.

The Astros would not bring up Correa to have him sit on the bench. He is slashing .276/.345/.449 with Triple-A Fresno after being promoted from Double-A Corpus Christi. There, he hit .385/.459/726 with seven home runs and 32 RBI in just 29 games. Correa has a 10.6% BB-rate and a minuscule 12.4% K-rate in those 113 Triple-A at bats. His approach is incredibly mature for a 20-year-old.

Those who have stashed him can finally activate him, dropping whoever you had as your infield depth option. For me personally, Addison Russell has found his way to my league's waivers. For those leagues without NA roster spots, add Correa immediately. His scouting report gives him 70 overall out of 80, with 70 hitting and 65 power. He also has 18 stolen bases in the minor leagues this year, and could contribute to your team in all areas.
