High-Priced Aces

These are your studs who are worth paying up for on this slate. It makes sense to deploy these guys as your cash game plays on FanDuel and as your SP1 on DraftKings based on their high floor/ceiling combination.

Jacob deGrom vs. BOS (13k FD, 12.4k DK) EARLY SLATE ONLY

He's only on the early slate, and yes, they finally raised his price to the appropriate amount, but it's hard not to just lock deGrom into your pitcher slot and find value with your bats. He's looked about as good as any pitcher has in recent memory right now and is striking guys out at a 49% clip this year!

Tyler Glasnow vs. OAK (10.8k FD, 10.3k DK)

Glasnow is most likely the safest option - and could be the most popular expensive pitcher tonight based on his pedigree. He's really tough on RHH and has some of the best stuff in baseball. He finally got roughed up this season by Toronto in his last outing, but still managed to strike out 10 Jays and those strikeouts give him a nice floor for cash. The Athletics haven't been swinging the bats well recently and Glasnow should be able to bounce back here tonight with a solid outing.

Carlos Rodon vs. Detroit (11k FD, 9.8k DK)

I am all over Rodon today, and I don't even care about the price increase. Yes, he's more than Glasnow on FanDuel, but the matchup warrants it! This is Detroit vs. LHP - the best matchup in baseball right now. They are striking out 34% of the time and have the lowest walk rate, ISO, and wOBA in the majors against LHP. Rodon has looked awesome through three starts, with one of those being a NO-HITTER against the Indians. Walk issues reared their ugly head last time out with five against the Tribe, but these Tigers aren't patient enough to work him for walks. I have him projected for double-digit strikeouts tonight and I prefer him to Glasnow as my top pitcher on the slate.

Mid-Tier Pivots

These are riskier plays who often go overlooked in the 7-9k price range, but have a lot of upside for tournaments and will save us some salary to spend on better hitters or another mid-tier pitcher (on DraftKings).

Zack Greinke vs. SEA (9.k FD, 9.4k DK)

Greinke has been solid so far this year, with only one poor outing in five starts. He's no longer a strikeout pitcher, but he is still able to pitch effectively despite high contact rates due to his control and ability to get soft contact. It's a pretty big price tag to pay for a guy with only a 17% K rate on the season, but the matchup against Seattle is a good one and he's going to get overlooked with the other expensive pitchers having more strikeout upside.

German Marquez @ SFG (8.2k FD, 7.5 DK)

Marquez is having a solid year and no one seems to be talking about him, yet again. He's managed to throw a quality start in three out of five games this season despite pitching at Coors in four of those starts. He's facing a tough Giants lineup on the road, but one that is much tougher on lefties than RHP. Marquez already struck out seven Giants in 5.2 innings in his first matchup and at this price tag there's a lot to like here. I have him pegged for 6-7 strikeouts tonight again and another solid outing.

Bargain Bin

These are the best value pitchers to use, either on FanDuel as your lone starter or on DraftKings as your SP2.

Huascar Ynoa @ BAL (7.9 FD, 7.8k DK)

Ynoa came through for me against the D-Back in his last outing, tossing six solid innings and picking up the win and QS. His only bad start this year was against these Cubs on the road last week. But that should also keep people off him, too. This Chicago team is striking out at a 29% clip against RHP and we saw Ian Anderson pitch a gem against them last night. It's not a safe spot for cash, but I like Ynoa in GPPs as an SP2 on DK here.

Alex Cobb @ TEX (8k FD, 7.6k DK)

Cobb is coming off his worst start of the 2021 season, as he allowed six hits, three walks, and four earned runs against the Astros. He failed to make it through three innings and labored at times. But those Astros are patient hitters who make a lot of contact and this matchup today is an elite one as the Rangers are just the opposite. They have a 31% K rate to RHP and are a free-swinging group of hitters. Their power is scary, with Lowe, Gallo, and the rest of them being dangerous hitters - but there are strikeouts to be had if Cobb regains the form he showed in his first two outings against the White Sox and Royals.
