Wide Receiver Waiver Wire Pickups - Week 9

Justin Carter's fantasy football wide receiver waiver wire pickups for Week 9 of the 2020 NFL season. These are free agent WRs to add, stream and stash.

Week 8 was a day of windy football and didn't feature too many wide receivers coming out of nowhere.

But that doesn't mean the waiver wire cupboard is bare for fantasy managers, as there's some definite value to be had this week.

Not all options are the same. Some players may be better in PPR or deeper leagues, so it’s not a one-size-fits-all comparison. Use your best judgment when deciding which of these players is the right fit for your roster. Check out our Waiver Wire Adds for Week 8 for help at all the skill positions. All players on this list here are around 30% rostered or below.

Corey Davis, Tennessee Titans

47% rostered

So, Davis was targeted 10 times in this one, making it the second game in a row that Ryan Tannehill looked his way that many times. I know the first three years of Davis' career had you feeling not very good about him, but he's becoming the co-top option here in Tennessee with A.J. Brown. He won't have 128 yards each week, but he has a nose for the end zone and needs to be universally rostered at this point.

Allen Lazard, Green Bay Packers

34% rostered

Lazard is practicing and seems to be on track to play next week against the 49ers. That's good news, because while Davante Adams had seven catches for 53 yards and three touchdowns this week, the other wide receivers on this roster combined for four receptions between four players. Only one of those players -- Equanimeous St. Brown -- was targeted multiple times. The potential for the Packers to trade for a receiver could hurt Lazard going forward, but if no deals happen, he'll step back into the role as the No. 2 pass catcher on this team. He can be a WR3 based on his pre-injury play.

Mecole Hardman, Kansas City Chiefs

30% rostered

Hardman appeared to get injured near the end of the game, so let's monitor the situation. But if he's fine, we're looking at a guy who led the K.C. wide receivers in targets with nine this week, catching seven passes for 96 yards and a score. We've been waiting for him to break out and while I don't think we can quite call this game a break out, he should be trending up. Of course, the impending return of Sammy Watkins could be bad news for Hardman. He's probably a boom/bust guy going forward.

Jalen Reagor, Philadelphia Eagles

25% rostered

Reagor's touchdown and two-point conversion helped hide the fact he had just three catches for 16 yards. But Reagor was getting looks in spots that mattered and had another end zone target that fell incomplete. The problem with Reagor is he's being outplayed by Travis Fulgham, but I still think he's worth adding in 12-team leagues.

Anthony Miller, Chicago Bears

21% rostered

Miller was targeted 11 times on Sunday, catching eight passes for 73 yards. Is he back to being the WR2 in Chicago? Maybe, though I'm not ready to say that with confidence. I know Miller's rostered rate has been dropping, but Sunday at least should give us the confidence to stop dropping him and pick him back up in deeper leagues, right?

Curtis Samuel, Carolina Panthers

20% rostered

Samuel had a pair of touchdowns on Thursday, scoring both on the ground and through the air. He's got the ability to make big plays for this Panthers team, though how much do you want to trust a guy in a fairly low-volume offense, especially when Christian McCaffrey will be back soon? There's a role for Samuel and he should be rostered in deeper leagues, though he wouldn't be my highest priority this week.

Randall Cobb, Houston Texans

15% rostered

This is a very speculative addition, but with trade rumors swirling around all the Houston receivers who are not Randall Cobb, it looks like Cobb's path to targets in this offense should be much more clear by the next time we see the Houston Texans on the football field.

Or maybe no deals materialize and nothing changes. But if you need to take a swing on someone, Cobb's an intriguing name.

Darnell Mooney, Chicago Bears

6% rostered

Mooney had five receptions of 69 yards and a touchdown, but also seemed to fall back behind Anthony Miller in the pecking order. Kind of a mixed day, but Mooney is trending up and has an enticing matchup against the Titans coming up, whose defense has really been struggling.

Josh Reynolds, Los Angeles Rams

3% rostered

On a day where the Rams played from behind and Cooper Kupp saw 21 targets, Josh Reynolds was able to carve out some space of his own, turning his nine targets into four catches for 44 yards. Honestly, there are other guys in this range of current rostered percentages that I like more than Reynolds, but his targets are up recently, so there's that!

Demarcus Robinson, Kansas City Chiefs

2% rostered

Watkins returning likely takes Robinson out of the picture for fantasy managers, but he did score his first touchdown of the season on Sunday and has some boom/bust value in deep leagues. Overall, though, another guy who just barely qualifies as a fantasy add this week.

Willie Snead IV, Baltimore Ravens

1% rostered

The Ravens signed Dez Bryant to their practice squad. I think that probably says a good bit about the position of this receiving corps, right? Marquise Brown was targeted twice, both at the very end of the game. Miles Boykin had a touchdown too, but was targeted just three times. It was Snead whose seven targets led this receiving group, and he turned them into five catches for 106 yards. Snead's numbers haven't been good this year, but we're not that far removed from when he was the No. 1 receiver on this team, and with other guys struggling, Lamar Jackson could start to look his way more often.

Jakobi Meyers, New England Patriots

1% rostered

With injuries to Julian Edelman and N'Keal Harry, it was Jakobi Meyers who took advantage, turning his 10 targets into six catches for 58 yards and a two-point conversion. As long as Edelman and Harry remain sidelined, Meyers is a nice streaming play in deeper leagues with lots of target-related upside, even if this Patriots offense has become very run-oriented with Cam Newton at quarterback.

Auden Tate, Cincinnati Bengals

1% rostered

Tyler Boyd and Tee Higgins are the top two receivers here, but a pass-based Bengals offense looks like it can sustain a third receiver, and it also looks like that person might not be A.J. Green, who had two catches for 19 yards on five targets. Tate, meanwhile, caught all seven of his targets for 65 yards. Tate's looking like a solid deep-league play at this point, especially if Green's role continues to decline. (Or if Green gets dealt at the trade deadline, though I have no idea if that's in the realm of possibility?)

Braxton Berrios, New York Jets

1% rostered

Well, Denzel Mims has played two games and finished with exactly 42 receiving yards in both games. But this week, those 42 yards came on just two catches and he saw four fewer targets than he did against the Bills. Mims is...maybe not ready to the the No. 1 guy here.

But Braxton Berrios was targeted 11 times, catching eight passes. Sure, he had just 34 yards, but considering he's been targeted 18 times in the past two weeks, Berrios has some decent upside in deep, full PPR leagues at this point.

Marvin Hall, Detroit Lions

0% rostered

Kenny Golladay left Sunday's game with a hip injury. We're not sure what exactly that means going forward, but if he misses time, Marvin Hall's the most likely guy to step into a bigger role. He was targeted seven times on Sunday, catching four passes for 113 yards. If Golladay is out, Hall's actually one of my favorite pickups this week.
