League of Legends DFS Basics
Since LCS contests are being offered on both FanDuel and DraftKings, it's important to note some pricing discrepancies from site to site, but the roster slots, scoring, and roster construction rules are almost entirely identical with the only exception being that FanDuel forces you to roster at least one player (or team slot) from a third team, while you can play only two teams among your seven roster slots on DraftKings.
- Stacking in LoL DFS lineups is very important. 4-3 stacks are the order of the day (on DraftKings) with 3-3-1 becoming more popular (and necessary on FanDuel) as people try to differentiate their lineups in these suddenly large-field GPPs.
- In LoL DFS, it is very important to focus on players from winning teams. Think in terms of baseball, one side of the matchup is like a pitcher and the other side the batter. This means there is a very negative correlation between teams in the same match. Players score by accumulating kills, which costs the other side points in deaths. Just like earned runs bring down your pitcher’s score.
- Along with this another mistake I see beginners making is trusting average scoring. Players' scoring potential is only realized in games that are won. If player X averages 50 DKP, that likely comes from scoring 70 in a 2-0 win and 30 in an 0-2 defeat. What this means is that someone who looks like a value at $4800 suddenly might not end up being such a great point-per-dollar play.
- Finally, you're going to want to do your best you fill your captain slot with an ADC or MID. Depending on which teams and players you decide to stack that might not be feasible. The order of preference for your captain slot is generally ADC, MID, JNG, TOP, SUP. Some players in some positions may stand out above the others so consider stats like kill share before you make your final decision.
Game 1: TSM (-195) vs. GGS
GGS plays its second game of the weekend already in this first matchup. TSM is coming off of a pretty good weekend last weekend with wins against EG and 100T. I like them to continue that here. I think that TSM might have some problems with GGS, but I think they should win this one in another shootout, similar to the 100T game. I think it will be important to have the winning side of this one in your lineups as I think it has the highest upside on the slate.
Top TSM plays: Doublelift, Bjergsen, Spica, BrokenBlade, Biofrost, TSM team
Top GGS plays: Closer, Damonte, FBI, Hauntzer
Game 2: 100T (-200) vs. DIG
This one is a matchup of two of the lowest-tier teams in the league. 100T made two subs to start the week and then proceeded to get stomped by GGS last night. DIG is winless this split and there are rumors that they will be starting a new jungle and mid lane but as of Friday night, I have not seen any news surrounding those particular subs.
This is another potential fiesta, as I'm not sure either team is going to be able to win on their own depending on the news that comes out about subs I might even take a stab on DIG here. If Dardoch and Fenix are in then I most likely won't but if the original roster is in I could see them getting their first win here against 100T. I just have really no faith in 100T winning games as they haven't really gotten any good play from any lane. Ssumday has been a disappointment, Ryoma is taking up an import slot yet is a bottom three mid lane in the league and while I think CodySun is a good ADC, he hasn't yet found a support that can enable him to do what he needs to do to carry. Since I don't know who the starters are at jungler and mid for DIG, I am going to write them in as just positions.
Top DIG plays: Johnsun, Lourlo, Mid Laner, Jungler, Aphromoo
Top 100T plays: CodySun, Ssumday,
Game 3: EG (-145) vs. FLY
This should be an awesome game. EG and FLY are right in the mix for the #2 seed in the league and both these teams are pretty even in skill level so it will be interesting to see the team comps that these guys choose to play. Jizuke is the X factor in this one. He plays a huge variety of champions and in the games EG wins he pops off. I think that this game can go either way, I'm not really sure about this one. Obviously, if I could see the draft I could give a way better analysis and prediction, but that isn't possible, unfortunately. I think I lean FLY but if EG wins, expect big games from Jizuke, and Bang.
Top FLY plays: Santorin, PowerOfEvil, Mash, IgNar, Solo, Fly team
Top EG plays: Bang, Jizuke, Svenskeren
Game 4: TL (-385) vs. IMT
I expect this game to hold a lot of ownership on the TL side. IMT pulled out a surprise win last weekend against GGS. Then they got smacked by C9 which isn't surprising. What else isn't surprising is that I am on the TL side of this one. This game should be the most straightforward game on the slate, and I expect TL to take care of business here.
Top TL plays: Tactical, Broxah, Jensen, CoreJJ, Impact, TL Team
Summary:
- Favorite stacks: TL, TSM, FLY, DIG
- I think pending news I'm going to take a stand on DIG on Saturday to get their first win against 100T.
- Players are listed in the order that I prefer playing them.
