The Detroit Red Wings signed free-agent center Valtteri Filppula (Islanders) to a two-year contract on Monday. Financial terms were undisclosed. The 35-year-old Finnish pivot posted 17 goals and 31 points with a plus-19 rating across 72 games in his lone season with the New York Islanders while notching four game-winning tallies. The 17 goals were his most since the 2013-14 season, his first in Tampa Bay. Filppula spent his first seven-plus seasons with the Red Wings, including a 66-point campaign in 2011-12 which is still his career high. His days of a solid fantasy player across the board are in the rear-view mirror, but he can still be useful in deeper pools and DFS.--Daniel Dobish
