The Los Angeles Kings bought out the contract of veteran defenseman Dion Phaneuf on Saturday, vice president and general manager Rob Blake announced on Saturday. Phaneuf wore the silver and black of the Kings for 93 total games, posting just four goals and 16 points with 68 penalty minutes. He has been a shell of his former self in recent seasons since being a star and legit fantasy-start during his days with the Calgary Flames. He might latch on with another organization, but at this point he is nothing more than an option for fantasy owners in deeper pools.--Daniel Dobish
