Jake Arrieta Pitches Phillies Past Dodgers
The Philadelphia Phillies evened their series with the Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday night behind the arm of former Cy Young winner Jake Arrieta. The 32-year-old tossed seven shutout innings, allowing six hits and two walks while striking out five. While he struck out three times at the plate, his masterful, 103-pitch performance was plenty for his offense, which ultimately pounded out six runs. Earning the victory, Arrieta’s record improved to 5-2 on the year, while his ERA dipped to a terrific 2.16. His next start is tentatively scheduled for Sunday afternoon in San Francisco against the Giants.
