Colorado Rockies first baseman/outfielder Ian Desmond continues to be mired in the depths of a terrible offensive season. Desmond went 2-for-24 over the last six games with 10 strikeouts. The only silver lining of Desmond’s offensive woe is that six of his last eight hits have been for extra bases. He’s now hitting just .170, he’s striking out at his highest clip since 2015, and his line drive rate is the lowest it’s been since 2009. However, there is some interesting good news in his peripherals. Desmond’s BABIP is a basement-dwelling .189, he has a higher hard hit percentage (36.6%) than he’s ever had in his entire career, and he hasn’t hit a single infield pop up this season. Basically, he’s too terrible to own at the moment, but if an owner has a free bench spot for a flier, Desmond wouldn’t be a bad choice.--Billy Stonick - RotoBaller
