Prior to Thursday’s home game against the San Francisco Giants, the Philadelphia Phillies made a move that altered their bullpen. Left-hander Zac Curtis was demoted in favor of Jake Thompson, leaving the club without a left-handed pitcher. The Phillies have long moved into somewhat of an exclusive right-handed pitching staff, having last had a southpaw starting pitcher in 2016. The 25-year-old Curtis made four appearances with the big league club, surrendering two runs across five innings of work. Thompson, meanwhile, had allowed seven runs in 8 2/3 innings of work before his demotion at the end of last month.--RDelgado
