New York Mets catcher Kevin Plawecki went down with a fractured left hand about four weeks ago, but it sounds as if he is inching closer to a return. On Tuesday, Plawecki caught baseballs for the first time since suffering the injury, a noteworthy step considering he had a broken hand. While the Mets badly need Plawecki back in the fold, he’ll likely return to a platoon once he’s healthy. On Tuesday, the Amazins acquired catcher Devin Mesoraco from the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for pitcher Matt Harvey, meaning Plawecki isn’t likely to have the chance to run away with the job as some thought he could when platoon mate Travis d’Arnaud went down due to a torn UCL. Plawecki had a shot at gaining fantasy value, but he likely won’t carry much with the split again.--John Smith
