Nats Make Offer For SP Leake

The Washington Nationals have made an offer to free agent starting pitcher Mike Leake, according to CBS Sports.

The Nats lost Jordan Zimmerman to the Detroit Tigers during free agency. The replacement appears to be Leake for what could be around five years in the range of $75-80 million.

The 28-year-old right-hander held a 3.70 ERA while pitching for the Cincinnati Reds and San Francisco Giants this past season. The six-year veteran had a solid career with the Reds for almost five seasons. His best season was in 2013 when he went 14-7 with a 3.37 ERA. Leake followed that with a 3.70 ERA in 2014 and in 2015. He was 9-5 with Cincy although he didn’t necessarily succeed in San Fran when went 2-5 with a 4.07 ERA in nine starts.

The Washington rotation will now be led by Max Scherzer, Stephen Strasburg, Gio Gonzalez, Joe Ross and now possibly Leake.
