Week 13 Quarterback (QB) Rankings Analysis

By Zach Wilkens (@LopsidedTrades)

I’m really high on Derek Carr this week at QB7. He’s been a top 10 QB all season. The Chiefs have been a tough matchup but just last week Tyrod Taylor put up a top five week against them. Carr has two great receivers and has fared well in tough matchups before (Jets, Vikings). I’m not worried about him.

Another QB in my top ten this week is Ryan Fitzpatrick at QB9. The Giants aren’t quite the Saints in terms of a great matchup for QBs but they do allow the most pass yards in the NFL. With Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker to throw to, this could be a really ugly showing for the Giants defense. Fitz makes for an excellent stream.

One QB I am not so high on? That would be the no longer matchup proof Drew Brees. Even at home I find myself shying away from this matchup vs the Panthers. The Panthers give up the second fewest points to QBs and have been especially dominant in their last three games.

Opponents have averaged 197 pass yards and just two pass touchdowns total during that stretch. Brees might hit 250 yards with a couple touchdowns and a couple turnovers but I’m guessing you can do better on the waiver.

I’m also liking old man Matt Hasselbeck quite a bit this week. It’s easy to want to avoid him solely because of his age but the fact is that he is putting up decent points when he starts. I love this matchup against a downward trending Steelers team.

The Steelers defense has played some of the worst football it’s played all season in the last three weeks. If that holds it’s not unrealistic to think Hasselbeck could have a top ten week. As it stands I have him at QB15.
