PGA DFS: DraftKings Fantasy Golf Sleeper Picks and Advice for the BMW Championship

Luckily the football season began this past weekend as there was no golf. Lately, especially last week, I have been getting destroyed. I made eight lineups for the Deutsche Bank Championship, and not one of them placed in the money. That’s good news for this week knowing it can’t get any worse. But this week is pretty difficult with only 70 players in the field for the BMW Championship and no cut. To have a successful lineup you will need to pick the winner of this tournament.

The BMW this year will be hosted at Conway Farms Golf Club in Lake Forest, Illinois. Conway Farms hosted the 2013 BMW, which saw Zach Johnson win at 16-under. The course is more towards the difficult side and greens are small at around 5,000 square feet. After this week, the top 30 golfers in the FedEx Cup standings will move on next week to play in the Tour Championship and have a shot at winning $10 million.

Editor's Note: Our Partner DraftKings is hosting another huge Fantasy Gold tournament on September 17th. The $700K Drive to the Green is free to enter, and it dishes out $100K to the first place finisher!  If you sign up and make a deposit now, you’ll get a 100% bonus on your first DraftKings deposit and we’ll also give you free access to RotoBaller’s Premium 2015 Fantasy Football NFL Draft Kit (a $49.99 value).

PGA DFS Advice – Stats To Look At

-Driving Accuracy

-Strokes Gained Tee-to-Green

-Strokes Gained Putting

-Putting Average

-Proximity To Hole

PGA DFS High-Priced DraftKings Picks ($10,000-$12,600)

Jordan Spieth ($11,600)

-Driving Accuracy: 82

-Strokes Gained Tee-to-Green: 4

-Strokes Gained Putting: 16

-Putting Average: 1

-Proximity To Hole: 25

-2013 Result: T16, 7-under

-FedEx Cup Standing: 2

Spieth can’t possibly play bad again after missing two straight cuts. This week off must have helped get his head together and fix up his game. Spieth is usually the first or second highest priced player, but he is third highest this week. Take advantage of that and pick him.

Jim Furyk ($10,000)

-Driving Accuracy: 17

-Strokes Gained Tee-to-Green: 3

-Strokes Gained Putting: 118

-Putting Average: 151

-Proximity To Hole: 2

-2013 Result: 3, 13-under

-FedEx Cup Standing: 9

Furyk is a seasoned veteran and although he may not putt well he sure puts the ball close to the hole. The birdie opportunities will be there. I like Furyk a lot this coming week.

PGA DFS Mid-Priced DraftKings Picks ($8,000-$9,800)

Zach Johnson ($9,500)

-Driving Accuracy: 6

-Strokes Gained Tee-to-Green: 14

-Strokes Gained Putting: 109

-Putting Average: 16

-Proximity To Hole: 98

-2013 Result: Winner

-FedEx Cup Standing: 7

The fact that he won on this course two years ago makes him a must start.

Hideki Matsuyama ($8,900)

-Driving Accuracy: 51

-Strokes Gained Tee-to-Green: 6

-Strokes Gained Putting: 97

-Putting Average: 29

-Proximity To Hole: 30

-2013 Result: DNP

-FedEx Cup Standing: 16

I’m tired of getting burned by Matsuyama. This is my first time picking him, hopefully he pans out. He finished 13th and 25th in the last two tournaments and scored 77 and 88.5 points in those two tournaments.

Robert Streb ($8,000)

-Driving Accuracy: 129

-Strokes Gained Tee-to-Green: 24

-Strokes Gained Putting: 25

-Putting Average: 56

-Proximity To Hole: 160

-2013 Result: DNP

-FedEx Cup Standing: 12

Streb is a safe play, as he finished 39th the last two tournaments. He won’t ruin your lineup but offers more upside than downside.

PGA DFS Low-Priced DraftKings Picks ($6,600- $7,900)

Tony Finau ($7,600)

-Driving Accuracy: 184

-Strokes Gained Tee-to-Green: 33

-Strokes Gained Putting: 122

-Putting Average: 56

-Proximity To Hole: 157

-2013 Result: DNP

-FedEx Cup Standing: 41

Finau is so close to making the Tour Championship. One more good week of golf and he’s in. Although he was cut at the Deutsche Bank I expect a much better performance after the week off. He should go back to his PGA and Barclays form and play well.

Daniel Summerhays ($7,400)

-Driving Accuracy: 96

-Strokes Gained Tee-to-Green: 118

-Strokes Gained Putting: 6

-Putting Average: 6

-Proximity To Hole: 108

-2013 Result: T28, 2-uner

-FedEx Cup Standing: 26

Summerhays has two straight top 10 finishes in the playoffs. He has been rolling and there is no reason to think it ends here.

Jerry Kelly ($7,000)

-Driving Accuracy: 10

-Strokes Gained Tee-to-Green: 82

-Strokes Gained Putting: 32

-Putting Average: 20

-Proximity To Hole: 103

-2013 Result: DNP

-FedEx Cup Standing: 65

I threw him in a lineup last time as a punt play, and I was pleasantly surprised. He finished tied for 9th scoring 80 fantasy points. I’ll play him again as a punt play this week. He also needs to play extremely well to make the Tour Championship.
