Analyzing Premier League Transfer Rumors: August 1st to 7th

As with any transfer window, there are loads of rumors that dominate the backpages. We get all kinds of reports and "done deals" which never end up happening at all.

However, sometimes they do carry merit so we're going to be looking at some transfer rumors and analyzing the likelihood of them and whether they would benefit the respective players and teams.

Editor’s Note: be sure to check out all of our articles, and read more about English Premier League (EPL, BPL) fantasy analysis and European football news.

Tottenham Linked With Charlie Austin

Spurs have been linked with a £15 million move for relegated QPR's 26-year-old Charlie Austin according to the Daily Mirror. After a stellar campaign last season, it's a surprise that Austin still hasn't moved from the R's, especially with Southampton and Newcastle reportedly interested.

This would be a good move for all parties though - Spurs would get a British forward who can only get better and one that could either complement Harry Kane or replace the declining Roberto Soldado and Emmanuel Adebayor.

Alternatively, he could be a replacement for Kane who has been linked with a move to Manchester United. We'll give this a likelihood of 6.5/10.

Arsenal Linked With Karim Benzema

A constant transfer rumor over the past weeks, the Daily Mail report that Real Madrid could be persuaded to part with the Frenchman if the Gunners break their transfer record and bid at least £45 million for Benzema.

Doubts still remain regarding whether Los Blancos even need to sell Benzema though some report that with a global debt and their need of funds for David de Gea's arrival, they just may sell Benzema, meaning Arsenal do have a bleak chance. He would certainly be an upgrade on Olivier Giroud, Theo Walcott or Danny Welbeck and is the type of signing that could propel Arsenal to the league title.

For Benzema, he could link up with Arsene Wenger, play in the Premier League with Arsenal - who have many of his French compatriots - and be the spearhead of the team rather than supplying Cristiano Ronaldo like he's done the last five seasons.

One suspects this transfer rumour will go on all the way to deadline day so for now, we'll give it a 5/10.

Norwich City Linked With Juan Quintero

Juan Quintero is another prospect in Porto's line of South American imports that will no doubt, end up leaving, giving the Portuguese side a healthy profit. However, Quintero has been linked with newly promoted Norwich City according to the Norwich Evening Times via tuttomercatoweb.com.

While he can certainly do better than that (considering he's playing at a high level which includes Champions League football), Quintero could really use Norwich as a stepping stone to bigger things. The Premier League is the biggest league in the world after all and with the new TV deal, even clubs like Norwich can offer competitive salaries to Europe's best players.

Quintero is the type of player who can produce moments of magic as well which would be vital for Norwich's chances of survival. Whether it can happen? It still seems a long shot but with other clubs linked with Quintero such as Bologna and Chievo, one wouldn't question the Colombian for joining the Canaries. We give this a 5.5/10.

Chelsea Linked With Baba Rahman

A transfer which seems inevitable, Chelsea have agreed a deal with Rahman to join the club and a fee just needs to be agreed on for the transfer to take place according to Sky Sports. The 21-year-old left-back would virtually be a replacement for the departed Filipe Luis and given his age and potential, it's not a bad deal for both club and player.

Jose Mourinho will have a young player who will be more patient than Luis was to get his chance but also a player who was one of the best performers in the Bundesliga last season with Augsburg. Meanwhile, Rahman would be joining one of the biggest clubs in the world and if impressive, could land a starting spot meaning that Cesar Azpilicueta could be moved back to his original right-back position.

There is more merit in this transfer than the others mentioned and we'll give it a 9/10.
