High-Confidence Strikeout Picks
All odds were current as of 8:00 AM
Nathan Eovaldi OVER 5.5 strikeouts (-113 Novig)
Eovaldi has been one of the more consistent pitchers in baseball for the better part of a decade. This season has been no different as he enters with a 3.93 ERA and above strikeout and walk rates.
His strikeout rate is down slightly from last season's 26.0% to 23.7% this year. However, he has also posted an elite 15.1% swinging-strike rate that suggests he has been seriously unlucky with the raw K numbers. In fact, that SwStr% represents the best mark of his very long and successful career.

In addition to some expected positive regression in his strikeout rate, Eovaldi also gets a plus matchup tonight. St. Louis has been an average offense against right-handed pitching, with a 101 wRC+, but they have also struck out at the 11th-highest rate (22.7%).
Grayson Rodriguez OVER 5.5 strikeouts (-122 FanDuel)
Rodriguez had a delayed start to his season and did not make his first start until mid-May. The Dodgers understandably roughed him up in his season debut, but he has made two solid starts since then.
Before this season, Rodriguez had posted a well-above-average 25.7% strikeout rate across two seasons. He sits at just 21.5% through three starts this year, but there is no reason he shouldn't be back above league average in short order.

Tonight's matchup may provide the perfect spot for Rodriguez to make further progress in that regard as he draws the Rockies outside of Coors Field. Thanks to its high elevation and thin air, Coors Field reduces pitch movement and creates one of the most hitter-friendly environments in baseball, particularly when it comes to avoiding strikeouts.
For context, the Rockies strike out at a 22% rate at Coors Field, but that number jumps to 25.7% when they are on the road.
