Max Muncy 2026 Player Outlook: The Skills Remain Strong, but Health is a Question Mark
Often overshadowed by superstars on his own team, Muncy has quietly been one of the most underrated hitters in baseball over the last eight years. He was excellent as always last season as well. His .243 AVG was his highest since 2021 (he's not a BA guy), and he had a strong .846 OPS along with 19 home runs in 388 PA. The 388 PA is the big problem with Muncy, as the 35-year-old has struggled to stay healthy the past few seasons. When he's on the field he hits for power and has outstanding plate discipline, making him especially good in points and OBP leagues. Fantasy managers just have to know that if they draft Muncy, they'll need to plan for injuries and absences. Muncy could probably hit 30 home runs if he could play 130 or more games, but given his age and they way the Dodgers approach injuries and rest, that is unlikely to happen.
He still sits near the top of the league in most Statcast metrics, ranking in the 90th percentile or higher in xwOBA, xSLG, hard hit rate, chase rate, and walk rate. Muncy is currently going around pick 256 in NFBC leagues, and looking at the other batters around him Muncy is perhaps the best hitter among them, he just might not give us the volume. He's best used as a corner infielder, and managers will need a contingency plan in case he gets injured. Still, he's a solid pick around that mark and if he somehow stays healthy all year he could produce positive value compared to cost.
