D/ST Strength of Schedule: Weeks 11-14

This weekly series will focus on defenses fantasy managers should consider picking up for the coming weeks. We will look at defenses fantasy managers should pick up for one week, and some defenses to pick up for the next four weeks. Sometimes, rostering two defenses isn't the worst strategy in most leagues that have a deeper bench.

So, we will break down the best defensive streamers into a few categories (Temporary, Part-Time, Recruit, and Fool's Gold) in this article below. You can see the description of each of those streamer types down below:

  • “TemporaryStreamer: D/ST with a good matchup in Week 11
  • “Part-TimeStreamer: D/ST with multiple nice matchups in a row
  • “RecruitStreamer: D/ST with an easy upcoming schedule that you pick up earlier to stash on your bench
  • Fool’s GoldStreamer: D/ST that on paper looks like a good option, but should be avoided

Week 11 D/ST Streamers

Since this is a streamer D/ST article, we will only look at defenses that are rostered in under 60% of ESPN leagues. There are other fantastic D/ST matchups as well for this week, so check out our Week 11 defense streamers and tiered rankings article to see the full list:

Atlanta Falcons D/ST (Part-Time Streamer)

  • Week 11 Opponent: Carolina Panthers
  • Week 12 Opponent: New Orleans Saints
  • Week 13 Opponent: New York Jets
  • ESPN Rostership: 21.1%
  • Over-Under: 42.5 points
  • Opponent’s Implied Total Points: 19.5

The Atlanta Falcons have one of the best defensive schedules upcoming. They play the Carolina Panthers in Week 11, the New Orleans Saints in Week 12, and the New York Jets in Week 13. All three of those offenses rank in the bottom half of the league in both points scored per game and pass block win rate.

That makes this Atlanta defense a part-time streamer. Fantasy managers can start this D/ST in each of the next three weeks, and this is a defensive group that has been pressuring the quarterback at a higher rate over the last few weeks. The Falcons have totaled 13 sacks over the past two games to go with a 43% pass rush win rate (sixth-best in the NFL) on the season.

Therefore, picking up this Falcons defense would be a smart move. The Panthers have scored under 17 points in three straight games, the Saints rank dead last in pass block win rate, and the Jets' offensive line is allowing the second-most sacks per game (3.8) this season.

Los Angeles Chargers D/ST (Part-Time Streamer)

  • Week 11 Opponent: Jacksonville Jaguars
  • ESPN Rostership: 29.7%
  • Over-Under: 44.5 points
  • Opponent’s Implied Total Points: 20.5

The Chargers have played well on the defensive side of the ball over the last three weeks. They have held the Minnesota Vikings, Tennessee Titans, and Pittsburgh Steelers to under 15 points in three consecutive games and have totaled an impressive 12 sacks in those three contests. Now, this defense gets a favorable matchup against the Jaguars in Week 11.

Although Jacksonville scored 29 points against the Texans last week, the team's offensive line continues to be suspect. No offensive line has allowed a bigger pressure rate than the Jaguars since Week 5. Given that Trevor Lawrence has been sacked 20 times over the last four games, the Chargers are a solid D/ST play this week. Los Angeles also ranks ninth in pass rush win rate.

Following this matchup against the Jaguars, the Chargers will have a bye in Week 12. However, it might be wise to hold this defense through its bye, considering Los Angeles will play the Raiders in Week 13. Geno Smith has thrown the second-most interceptions (12) this year, and Las Vegas' offensive line just allowed six sacks in last week's loss.

Baltimore Ravens D/ST (Part-Time Streamer)

  • Week 11 Opponent: Cleveland Browns
  • Week 12 Opponent: New York Jets
  • ESPN Rostership: 42.4%
  • Over-Under: 43.5 points
  • Opponent’s Implied Total Points: 17.5

The Baltimore Ravens were on this list last week, yet they are still available in over 60% of ESPN leagues. That feels too high for a defense that has been playing much better in recent games. This unit has held the Los Angeles Rams, Chicago Bears, Miami Dolphins, and Minnesota Vikings to under 20 points in four consecutive contests.

Although the Ravens have only totaled six sacks during this span, they are a must-roster defense with a few favorable matchups upcoming. Baltimore will play the Cleveland Browns in Week 11 and the New York Jets in Week 12. Given that both of these offenses struggle to score, this D/ST is a part-time streamer at the position.

Additionally, the Ravens could pile up some sacks in these two contests. Dillon Gabriel has been sacked at least six times in two of the past four games, and the Browns rank 28th in pass block win rate on the season. As for the Jets, Justin Fields has been sacked 20 times over the last five weeks.

Fool’s Gold D/ST Streamers

Dallas Cowboys D/ST at Las Vegas Raiders

  • Week 11 Opponent: Las Vegas Raiders
  • ESPN Rostership: 4.1%

Some fantasy managers could look to add the Cowboys' defense ahead of Week 11. This unit just added two defensive players at the trade deadline (Quinnen Williams and Logan Wilson) and appears to be getting healthier with DeMarvion Overshown and Shavon Revel Jr. likely to make their season debuts against the Raiders.

However, it's best to avoid this D/ST in all formats this week. The Cowboys have been one of the worst defenses in the NFL through the first 10 weeks, allowing 30.8 points per game. Given that Dallas ranks 19th in pass rush win rate, there are better defenses to roll with in Week 11. This defense is a high-risk, low-reward fantasy option.

Planning Ahead for Week 12

San Francisco 49ers D/ST (Recruit Streamer)

  • Week 11 Opponent: Arizona Cardinals
  • Week 12 Opponent: Carolina Panthers
  • Week 13 Opponent: Cleveland Browns
  • ESPN Rostership: 13.1%

If you are trying to plan ahead to Week 12, picking up the San Francisco 49ers' defense might not be a bad idea. After a matchup against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 11, the 49ers will play the Carolina Panthers in Week 12 and the Cleveland Browns in Week 13. That makes this D/ST a potential recruit streamer.

There's no doubt the 49ers haven't played well on defense since losing both Fred Warner and Nick Bosa for the season. However, these two matchups against the Panthers and Browns work in their favor.

Carolina has scored under 17 points in three straight games, and the offensive line ranks 21st in pass block win rate. Then, in Week 13, San Francisco will face a Browns offense that has had a hard time moving the ball with Gabriel under center. The offense has scored 20 points or fewer in four of Gabriel's five starts, and the rookie has been sacked 17 times in those five games.

The 49ers also have a favorable matchup in the first round of the fantasy football playoffs against the Tennessee Titans. So, this D/ST is worth adding for the next few weeks.

D/ST Streamers for Week 12

If you have Week 11 already figured out, let's look ahead at some defensive options that you could start in Week 12:

  • Pittsburgh Steelers (58.3% rostership) - Week 12 Opponent: Chicago Bears
  • Arizona Cardinals (7.9% rostership) - Week 12 opponent: Jacksonville Jaguars
  • Las Vegas Raiders (7.8% rostership) - Week 12 opponent: Cleveland Browns

D/ST Streaming Action Plan: Next Four Weeks

Planning out your fantasy D/ST might require some work, but it might be necessary to target the best matchups every single week. Here is how I would line up my defensive streams across the first four weeks.

  • Week 11: Stream the Ravens versus the Browns
  • Week 12: Stream the Ravens versus the Jets
  • Week 13: Stream the Jaguars versus the Titans
  • Week 14: Stream the Dolphins versus the Jets
