When Is Joe Mixon Coming Back? Injury Update and Fantasy Football Outlook (Week 10)

Joe Mixon - Fantasy Football Rankings, Draft Sleepers, NFL Injury News

Is Joe Mixon out for the season? When is Joe Mixon coming back? The latest Joe Mixon injury update and fantasy football outlook heading into Week 10 of 2025.

Houston Texans starting running back Joe Mixon (foot) has yet to take the field this season and has remained on the non-football injury/reserve list since the beginning of the summer.

With Week 9 in the books, Mixon has not made any significant progress and is facing an uphill battle to return this season.

Will Mixon play again this season? Should fantasy managers stash him on their bench? Let's dive in!

Be sure to check all of our fantasy football rankings for 2025:

Is Joe Mixon Out for the 2025 Season?

While the Texans have not officially ruled out Mxion for the remainder of the season, he is facing a lengthy process to return to action. Since hitting the non-football injury list back in August, the team has not provided any substantial update on his status.

Earlier in October, the team's general manager, Nick Caserio, said that Mixon's status remains "in limbo" and that they did not have a definitive timeline on his availability.

Given that the Texans have yet to provide a clear timeline for when he may return to practice, fantasy managers should not expect him to return this season. While it is still possible he could return, the potential for this outcome is fading rapidly.

Joe Mixon 2025 Fantasy Football Outlook

Given the team's lack of updates, owners should not expect Mixon to carry any more fantasy value this season. As a result, managers in any 12-team format should not consider stashing him, even in an IR spot. While managers in deeper 14+ team formats with multiple IR spots could still consider stashing Mixon, his potential to return this season is very low, and it may be more beneficial to stash other IR candidates.

With Jayden Daniels (elbow) and Brian Thomas Jr. (ankle) potentially suffering severe injury on Sunday, managers will likely need to open an IR spot and will need to cut Mixon to stash these players instead.

Managers in shallower leagues should opt to pivot off Mixon in favor of high-upside handcuff running backs. For example, Los Angeles Rams running back Blake Corum, New York Jets backup running back Isaiah Davis, and Atlanta Falcons No. 2 option Tyler Allgeier are all prime stash options to hold instead of Mixon.

All three running backs could have high-end RB2 upside if their starter were to miss time. In addition, Davis could even become the starter on his club if the Jets were to move Breece Hall ahead of this week's NFL Trade Deadline.

When looking at high-upside WRs to target, managers should look to stars Christian Watson of the Green Bay Packers and Parker Washington of the Jacksonville Jaguars. With Tucker Kraft (knee) out for the season and Travis Hunter (knee) potentially sidelined for the remainder of the campaign, Watson and Washington could have a key role on their respective team during the entire second half.
