Buffalo Sabres goaltender Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen (lower body) practiced for the first time at training camp on Thursday. He will sit out Thursday's preseason clash against the Detroit Red Wings but said he "should be ready" for opening night against the New York Rangers on Oct. 9. Luukkonen has operated as Buffalo's No. 1 in recent years, but the team has built up a lot of depth behind him. Alex Lyon, Devon Levi, and Alexandar Georgiev all have NHL experience and will compete for playing time in 2025-26. Last season was challenging for Luukkonen, as he finished with a 24-24-5 record and posted underwhelming numbers with a 3.20 goals-against average and a .887 save percentage.--Taavi Pailk
