Running Back Fantasy Football News

Chase Brown, Cincinnati Bengals

The Athletic's Paul Dehner Jr. predicts that Cincinnati Bengals running back Chase Brown's workload "won't be too far off" from the 23.6 touches he averaged per game between Week 9 and Week 17 of the 2024 season. Dehner Jr. writes that the team "restructured the run game specifically around (Brown's) skillset" and is "utilizing him more split out wide."

During the eight-game stretch last season referenced above, Brown gained 930 yards from scrimmage and scored six touchdowns. As long as Cincinnati's offense is again one of the league's most prolific, Brown should be in line for a monster season. He's a low-end fantasy RB1, and could finish even higher in full-PPR scoring formats.

Zach Charbonnet, Seattle Seahawks

Seattle Seahawks running back Zach Charbonnet had a great training camp, according to The Athletic's Jeff Howe, and he could have a larger role in the team's offense after Kenneth Walker III missed significant time while dealing with a foot injury. With Klint Kubiak in place as the team's new offensive coordinator, the team will likely have a renewed focus on the run game, and Charbonnet and Walker could both be solid fantasy options at times this season. Last year, Charbonnet had 569 rushing yards on 135 carries while adding 42 catches for 340 receiving yards, all new career highs in his second season out of UCLA. He also found the end zone nine times. Charbonnet is the RB32 in the RotoBaller rankings and is a very solid RB3 with RB2 upside if he does indeed seize a larger role in Seattle's backfield after his strong camp.

De'Von Achane, Miami Dolphins

Miami Dolphins running back De'Von Achane (calf) should be ready to go for the Week 1 regular-season opener on Sunday, Sept. 7, versus the Indianapolis Colts, barring any setbacks, according to David Furones of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. General manager Chris Grier said on Wednesday that he expects Achane to be ready next weekend, although Furones doesn't sound as confident here.

The 23-year-old lead back has not practiced with the team in over a week as he deals with a nagging calf injury that has put his availability ahead of the Week 1 opener in question. Fantasy managers should have a much better idea of Achane's status for Week 1 when Miami begins official practices next week. Achane's status is of even more importance with Jaylen Wright (leg) expected to miss a couple of weeks after having leg surgery. Their injuries have made rookie Ollie Gordon II an intriguing late-round flier in fantasy drafts.

TreVeyon Henderson, New England Patriots

New England Patriots rookie running back TreVeyon Henderson has "impressed Patriots brass with his ability to run between the tackles, not just to the outside," according to Chad Graff of The Athletic. Graff also writes that Henderson "looks like easily (New England's) best offensive weapon" and has "outperformed both" of the team's veteran running backs, Rhamondre Stevenson and Antonio Gibson, in practice.

Henderson's explosive speed and receiving ability are well known from his collegiate days at Ohio State. However, if the 22-year-old is also opening eyes with his inside rushing ability, he could be on the fast track to a three-down role in New England. Henderson is a priority RB2 target in redraft leagues with significant upside if he can wrestle touches away from Stevenson and Gibson over the course of the season.

Breece Hall, New York Jets

The Athletic's Zack Rosenblatt writes that New York Jets running back Breece Hall "wasn't (the team's) best running back in training camp." Rosenblatt also reports that, based on the way Jets' coaches have raved about second-year back Braelon Allen, he wouldn't be surprised if Allen "overtakes (Hall) completely as the lead back at some point." There's been a steady drumbeat of reporting indicating a split workload in the Jets' backfield this season.

That could lead to Hall being limited to mostly passing-down work, which may mean he is currently overvalued in fantasy drafts as one of the first 15-20 running backs off the board. Hall remains a very talented player who had an extremely productive fantasy season as recently as 2023, so he's a risky pick due to the variance between his floor and ceiling.
