Andrew Painter Allows Six Runs in Six Innings in Thursday's Outing
Philadelphia Phillies right-handed pitching prospect Andrew Painter allowed six runs on nine hits and three walks while striking out seven against Triple-A Omaha. Painter continued his rough August and was roughed up a bit in this one despite missing some bats. He racked up 18 whiffs on 46 swings, leaning heavily on his changeup, which produced 13. The poor outing has amounted to a 7.77 ERA, 1.93 WHIP, and a 27:16 K:BB in 24 1/3 innings for the month. The right-hander frequently struggles against left-handed hitters, giving up a .287 batting average. The top prospect has high-quality stuff and the ability to strike batters out, but the consistency with his command isn't there at the moment. He could still be in consideration for an end-of-season promotion, but it seems less likely.
