Jordan James 2025 Fantasy Football Outlook: One of the More Valuable Handcuffs in Fantasy if CMC and Guerendo Miss Time
Jordan Mason to the Minnesota Vikings this offseason, the San Francisco 49ers selected Oregon standout running back Jordan James with pick No. 147 overall in the 2025 draft to add depth. After James broke out in his junior season at Oregon with 1,267 rushing yards, 26 receptions for another 209 receiving yards, and 15 rushing touchdowns, he declared for the draft as an early breakout. With Kyle Shanahan hand-selecting him from this deep running back class, James now gets to learn behind one of the NFL's most prolific backs, Christian McCaffrey, and with Isaac Guerendo to be the change-of-pace back. James recorded zero fumbles in 386 carries while at Oregon while scoring 32 total touchdowns, so he should be a reliable power runner to complement Guerendo's 4.33 40-yard dash speed, should McCaffrey have any injury trouble this season. Depending on Kyle Shanahan's vision for preserving McCaffrey and how quickly James adapts to the speed of the NFL, he could certainly be utilized in more than just short-yardage situations and find more ways to spell McCaffrey with the powerback role in Shanahan's prolific running offense. He is one of the more valuable handcuffs to roster with McCaffrey and Guerendo's durability issues. James is worth a late-round flier in redraft leagues who could carve a significant workload in an explosive San Francisco 49ers offense if CMC and Guerendo were to miss anytime in 2025.
