Tyler O'Neill Shut Down After Suffering Setback
Tyler O'Neill (shoulder) off his Triple-A rehab assignment on Saturday, according to Jake Rill of MLB.com. He received an injection in his ailing left AC joint and will be shut down for approximately one week. O'Neill went to the 10-day injured list with a shoulder impingement on May 18. He had made progress in his recovery until he began to feel soreness earlier this week. After this latest development, it's clear the 29-year-old won't make an imminent return to the majors. O'Neill pounded 31 home runs with the Boston Red Sox last season, leading the Orioles to hand him a three-year, $49.5 million guarantee in free agency. It hasn't worked out so far. O'Neill has been on the IL twice (once for neck soreness) and has batted just .188/.280/.325 line with two homers in 93 plate appearances. He won't be able to improve on those numbers for the foreseeable future.
