When Will Jazz Chisholm Jr., Hunter Greene, Teoscar Hernandez Return? Fantasy Baseball Injury Update

Hunter Greene - Fantasy Baseball Rankings, MLB Injury News, DFS Lineup Picks

When will Jazz Chisholm Jr., Hunter Greene, and Teoscar Hernandez return and play? Will Chisholm, Greene, and Hernandez be back again this season? Read the latest fantasy baseball injury updates and return date for Week 8 of the 2025 MLB season.

There's no doubt that injuries are a major part of fantasy baseball. That has been no different to start the 2025 season, as plenty of star players are currently dealing with injuries. Players like George Kirby, Ronald Acuna Jr., Sean Manaea, Yordan Alvarez, Blake Snell, and Logan Gilbert are all on the injured list heading into Week 8.

Three more star players currently injured are New York Yankees infielder Jazz Chisholm Jr., Cincinnati Reds starting pitcher Hunter Greene, and Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Teoscar Hernandez. All three players were selected early in drafts, but their injuries have come at a bad time for fantasy managers.

So, when will Chisholm, Greene, and Hernandez be back? Will all three players return sometime in May? Let's dive in and find out the answer to those questions.

Be sure to check all of our fantasy baseball lineup tools and resources:

Jazz Chisholm Jr. Injury Update For Fantasy Baseball

It has been a while since we have seen Chisholm on the field. He last appeared in a game on April 29 after injuring his side in the middle of an at-bat. Although the utility specialist wound up tripling during that plate appearance, he eventually left the game due to some side discomfort. The Yankees then placed him on the 10-day injured list a few days later.

Chisholm's injury was officially diagnosed as a high-grade oblique strain, which means fantasy managers would be without him for quite some time. Yankees manager Aaron Boone said back on May 2 that the 27-year-old was set to miss four to six weeks with that oblique strain. However, the former All-Star is making progress in his recovery so far.

He fielded grounders over the weekend and has been hitting off a tee in recent days. Those are both great signs for Chisholm. Still, he is likely a few weeks away from a return. It hasn't even been three full weeks since he suffered his oblique strain, and he only just started hitting off a tee last week. Therefore, it's safe to say that he won't return by the end of May.

There is a chance, though, that Chisholm returns sometime at the beginning of June. The six-week mark of his injury would come during the week of June 9. Even though he is dealing with three separate tears in his oblique, it appears that a June return is most realistic for him. That means fantasy managers will be without him for just a few more weeks.

If you own Chisholm, you should have him in one of your IL slots for the time being. If you don't own Chisholm, see what it would take to acquire him. He is a strong all-around fantasy contributor and should post better numbers once he returns from his injury. The 27-year-old hit .181 with seven home runs, 17 RBI, and six stolen bases in 30 games before his oblique strain.

That low batting average could steer fantasy managers away from trying to buy Chisholm in most formats. But given his 20-30 potential in this New York lineup, he is a pretty easy buy-low at this point in the season.

Hunter Greene Injury Update For Fantasy Baseball

Greene has had a hard time staying healthy so far in his major league career. He has yet to make more than 26 starts in a season and has landed on the injured list in each of his four major league campaigns. So, it was only a matter of time until the flame-throwing right-hander landed on the 15-day IL in 2025.

Greene was removed from his start early on May 7 due to right groin tightness. The 2024 All-Star appeared to have injured his groin while warming up ahead of the fourth inning against the Atlanta Braves. While the Reds were initially optimistic that the right-hander would not require an IL stint, that wasn't the case after an MRI revealed a Grade 1 groin strain.

The good news for fantasy managers, though, is that Greene won't miss a ton of time from this groin strain. He threw a bullpen session on Sunday and came out of that session with no problems. Assuming he suffers no setbacks in the coming days, the 25-year-old will rejoin the Reds' rotation on Friday against the Chicago Cubs.

It is fantastic news that this will be a minimum IL stint for Greene. He was just placed on the 15-day IL on May 9 (retroactive to May 8) and is expected to be activated right when his 15 days are up on Friday. As a result, fantasy managers should plug him back into their lineups this weekend.

Although the Cubs present a tough matchup for the right-hander on Friday, Greene will remain a must-start. He has been untouchable on the mound and currently owns a 2.36 ERA and 61 strikeouts in his first eight starts this season. It'll be interesting to see if the Reds pitcher has any sort of limited pitch count in his first game back from the IL.

Teoscar Hernandez Injury Update For Fantasy Baseball

It has been a couple of seasons since Hernandez landed on the IL. He played 160 games for the Seattle Mariners in 2023 and 154 games for the Dodgers last year. However, the slugging outfielder was placed on the 10-day IL back on May 6 for the first time since the 2022 season.

Hernandez initially left a game on May 5 due to hamstring tightness. Following an MRI the next day, though, the 32-year-old was diagnosed with a Grade 1 left adductor strain. Despite the groin injury, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts remained optimistic that the outfielder would return sometime in the next two weeks.

That's right on par with what Roberts said, as Hernandez was officially activated from the 10-day IL ahead of Monday's series opener against the Arizona Diamondbacks. He got the starting nod in right field and batted fifth in his first game back. The veteran did enough over the past week to leave the Dodgers no choice but to activate him on May 19.

He took part in live batting practice last week and went on a short rehab assignment with Single-A Rancho Cucamonga over the weekend. He went 0-for-1 with two walks while playing four innings in right field before being removed from Saturday's game. Those four innings were enough for Hernandez to prove he is fully healthy.

With Hernandez now officially activated from the IL, fantasy managers should take him out of their IL spot. He is already back in the lineup and should continue to be a strong fantasy option the rest of the year. The two-time All-Star was batting .315 with nine home runs, 10 doubles, 34 RBI, and four stolen bases in 33 games before his injury.

As a result, fantasy managers should be starting Hernandez in all formats in Week 8. The 32-year-old will continue to see an everyday role in this Dodgers' lineup and was one of the best outfield options in fantasy last season. He slashed .272/.339/.501 with 33 home runs, 99 RBI, and 12 stolen bases across 154 contests.
