Curtis Mead 2025 Fantasy Baseball Outlook: Hot Spring Puts Him On Fantasy Radar
Curtis Mead has been the talk of the town at Rays camp early this spring. He is putting up MLB: The Show on rookie numbers in his small sample size with a .576/.641/.697 slash. When a former top prospect puts on a performance like this in camp, it gives fantasy managers hope that he's in line for a breakout season. However, it appears Mead doesn't have a pathway to everyday playing time as his three potential defensive homes, 1B, 2B, and 3B, are locked in by Yandy Diaz, Brandon Lowe, and Junior Caminero. He's currently likely to be on the short side of a platoon at DH with Jonathan Aranda. Mead has been a solid hitter in every stop of his minor league career, never having a WRC+ lower than 117 at any stop except for four games in the Complex in 2023 and never having a strikeout rate above 23%. However, his upside is likely limited even if he gets a full-time role, as he's never had more than 15 HRs or 13 SBs in any year of his career. Mead is mainly an option in AL-Only or deep leagues (Rotoballer 2B66) but is a player to watch if an injury opens up playing time. ATC has him projected for a .243/.302/.348 slash line over 126 plate appearances in 2025.
