MLB Power Rankings: Boston Red Sox Top 10 Prospects

BOSTON RED SOX - MLB TEAM LOGO

No. 10: Mikey Romero, 2B/SS

Mikey Romero opened the 2024 campaign by receiving his first full look at High-A ball and performed quite well. Across 59 games, Romero posted a .271/.319/.498 line with 20 doubles, ten home runs, and one stolen base. This strong production earned him a late-season taste of Double-A.

With the Portland Sea Dogs, the former 24th-overall pick of the 2022 MLB Draft held a .243/.257/.543 line. While his contact skills dropped, his power improved as he launched six home runs in 16 games. Romero should see time at Triple-A in 2025.

BOSTON RED SOX - MLB TEAM LOGO

No. 9: Payton Tolle, LHP

Payton Tolle was selected in the second round of the 2024 MLB Draft out of TCU. The 22-year-old did not make his professional debut following the draft.

In his final season in college, Tolle was named Big 12 Pitcher of the Year as he struck out 105 batters in 69 innings. His tall 6-foot-6 frame allows his fastball (which sits around 92 mph) to play much better than it appears due to his longer extension. Dynasty managers should closely monitor his production in his first professional campaign.

BOSTON RED SOX - MLB TEAM LOGO

No. 8 Richard Fitts, RHP

Richard Fitts got a brief look at the majors last season and held his own. Across 20 2/3 innings, Fitts posted a strong 1.74 ERA and a 1.26 WHIP. However, he struck out just nine batters and generated whiffs at a poor 15.2% rate.

Earlier in the season, Fitts logged 116 2/3 innings at Triple-A to the tune of a 4.17 ERA and a 1.28 WHIP. He averaged just under a strikeout per inning with 111 and served up 37 free passes. In 2023, he struck out 163 batters in 155 innings at Double-A. Fitts will compete for a spot on the Opening Day roster during spring training but must increase his strikeout production to find extended success in the major leagues.

BOSTON RED SOX - MLB TEAM LOGO

No. 7: Hunter Dobbins, RHP

Hunter Dobbins began the 2024 campaign by getting his second extended look at Double-A. Across this stint, the right-hander held a strong 3.17 ERA and a 1.23 WHIP across 105 frames. This was a nice improvement compared to the 4.27 ERA and 1.33 WHIP he posted through 71 innings at Double-A in 2023.

The Texas Tech product was then rewarded with a late-season promotion to Triple-A. Through a small 20 2/3 inning stint, Dobbins held his own with a 2.61 ERA and a 1.40 WHIP. He struck out 22 batters and allowed nine walks.

BOSTON RED SOX - MLB TEAM LOGO

No. 6: Miguel Bleis, OF

Miguel Bleis is one of the younger prospects on this list. Bleis debuted in Single-A in 2023 and held a solid .230/.282/.325 across 31 contests before suffering a season-ending shoulder surgery. The top signing in Boston’s 2020-2021 international class was poised to take the next step in 2024.

The outfielder opened the campaign with Single-A and took a significant step forward with a .257/.349/.398. He swiped 16 bags, hit four home runs, and held a 21:38 BB:K ratio. Bleis then moved up to High-A and struggled as he posted a poor .190 AVG. However, he continued to showcase his speed as he swiped 22 bags across 52 games.

BOSTON RED SOX - MLB TEAM LOGO

No. 5: Franklin Arias, SS

The 20-year-old shortstop joined the Boston organization in the 2023 international signing period. The infielder showcased his upside through his first look at minor league ball. Across 37 games in the Dominican Summer League in 2023, Arias held a stellar .350/.440/.453 line with a 19:14 BB:K ratio.

In 2024, Franklin Arias opened the campaign in the Dominican Summer League, where he continued to showcase his elite contact skills (.355 AVG) and stellar eye at the plate with a 34:36 BB:K ratio. Late in the season, Arias moved up to Single-A, where he posted a .257/.331/.378 line through 36 games. He swiped five bags and held a 16:29 BB:K ratio.

BOSTON RED SOX - MLB TEAM LOGO

No. 4: Yoeilin Cespedes, SS

Similar to Arias, Yoeilin Cespedes also joined the Red Sox during the 2023 international signing window. In 2023, Cespedes shined in his professional debut as he posted a .346/.392/.560 line with 15 doubles, six home runs, and a 14:24 BB:K ratio across 46 games in the Dominican Summer League. He was named Boston’s Latin Program Player of the Year.

In 2024, the 19-year-old spent time in the Florida Complex League and continued to perform as he posted a .319/.400/.615 line with ten doubles, five home runs, and a 12:19 BB:K ratio through 25 games. Cespedes will likely spend most of the 2025 season with Single-A.

BOSTON RED SOX - MLB TEAM LOGO

No. 3: Marcelo Mayer, SS

The fourth-overall pick in the 2021 MLB Draft made an impact in his first full professional season as he posted a .280/.399/.489 line with 30 doubles, 13 home runs, and 17 stolen bases across 91 games split between Single and High-A. In 2023, Marcelo Mayer continued his strong play at High-A but struggled in his first look at Double-A.

However, this past season, Mayer quickly turned the corner at Double-A as he held a stellar .307/.370/.480 line. He hit 28 doubles and swiped 13 bags. He earned a promotion to Triple-A but could not make a start due to a back injury. Mayer is expected to open the 2025 season at Triple-A but could be in store for an early-season promotion.

Kristian Campbell - Fantasy Baseball Prospects, Sleepers, MLB

No. 2: Kristian Campbell, 2B

The Texas Tech product joined Boston in the 2023 MLB Draft and has progressed through the minor leagues at an impressive pace. In 2024, Campbell opened the season by getting his first extended look at High-A but needed just 40 games to move up to Double-A.

With Double-A Portland, the infielder posted an impressive .362/.463/.582 line with eight home runs, 17 stolen bases, and a stellar 35:38 BB:K ratio. In his late-season taste of Triple-A, he stayed hot with a .286 AVG and a .486 SLG across 19 games. He could be in contention to make the Opening Day roster.

BOSTON RED SOX - MLB TEAM LOGO

No. 1: Roman Anthony, OF

Roman Anthony is not only the top prospect in Boston but potentially in all of baseball. The 20-year-old took a significant step in his development as he posted an impressive .294/.412/.569 line through his first 54 games at High-A in 2023. This elite performance earned him a late-season look at Double-A.

In 2024, Anthony logged 84 starts at Double-A and held an excellent .369/.367/.489 with 15 home runs and stolen bases. Once again, Anthony earned another late-season promotion, this time to Triple-A. With Worcester, Anthony played some of his best baseball as he held an incredible .344/.463/.519 line with a 31:31 BB:K ratio.
