Players With Multiple NFL MVPs - Lamar Jackson Joins The Exclusive List

Lamar Jackson - Fantasy Football Rankings, Draft Sleepers, NFL Injury News

After winning his second MVP, Lamar Jackson joins an exclusive list. Who else has won multiple MVP awards? Joey Pollizze looks at the exclusive list that Lamar Jackson joins.

The 2023-2024 NFL awards were announced at the NFL Honors on Thursday in Las Vegas ahead of Super Bowl LVIII between the San Francisco 49ers and Kansas City Chiefs. Plenty of awards were given out, including Offensive Rookie of the Year, Defensive Rookie of the Year, Offensive Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, and so many more.

But the one award that everyone was looking forward to was the MVP. Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson came out on top, winning his second MVP award in a landslide. The 27-year-old now joins an exclusive club after winning his first MVP in 2019.

Did Jackson deserve the MVP this year? Who else has won multiple MVP awards in their career? Let's dive in and find out.

Be sure to check all of our fantasy football rankings for 2025:

Lamar Jackson's 2023-2024 Stats

Despite some people on social media claiming Jackson didn't deserve the MVP award on Thursday, he was the best player all season. With new offensive coordinator Todd Monken, Jackson set career highs in several passing categories while putting up elite rushing numbers.

In 2023, Jackson completed 67.2% of his passes for 3,678 yards and 24 touchdowns with just seven interceptions. His completion percentage, passing yards, and yards per attempt (8.0) were the best of his career. He also ran for 821 yards (his most since 2020) and five touchdowns. On top of that, the quarterback led the Ravens to an impressive 13-4 record and the number-one seed in a very competitive AFC conference.

Jackson only had 29 total touchdowns in 2023, which does seem a bit low, considering Josh Allen totaled 44 and Dak Prescott had 38. But the Ravens quarterback showed out in plenty of big games this season. He threw for 357 yards and three touchdowns in a blowout win over the Detroit Lions in Week 7 and then threw for 252 yards and two touchdowns in a 33-19 victory over the 49ers in Week 16. The following week, he tortured the Miami Dolphins' secondary by putting up 321 passing yards and five touchdowns in Week 17.

The 27-year-old made very few mistakes this season, and he was almost unstoppable in every facet with a new offensive coordinator and a brand new wide receiver group. That helped Jackson put together a strong campaign. Although his 2019 MVP numbers were likely better than this year's -- where he threw for a career-high 36 pass touchdowns and rushed for 1,206 yards -- the Ravens' signal-caller did enough to earn another MVP in 2023.

MVP Award Voting

In 2019, Jackson won the MVP award unanimously by receiving all 50 first-place votes. This time around, the Ravens quarterback almost became the first two-time unanimous MVP winner. The young quarterback certainly deserved that award this year following a stellar season. The Ravens were the best team in 2023, and the quarterback was a big part of that.

Jackson received 49 first-place votes and one third-place vote in this year's ballot. He finished with a total score of 493 on the ballot, which was 341 points more than Prescott's second-place finish (152) and 346 points more than Christian McCaffrey's third-place finish (147). San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy, who finished fourth, and Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen, who finished fifth, rounded out the top five on the MVP ballot.

Jackson was just one voter away from being another unanimous MVP winner. That lone person's ballot had Allen at one, Prescott at two, and Jackson at three. The Ravens quarterback would have started an exclusive club as the only two-time unanimous MVP winner. Still, by winning his second, he joins just a handful of players with multiple MVP wins in their career.

Who Else Has Won Multiple MVP Awards?

After winning his second MVP on Thursday, Jackson became the 11th player in NFL history to win this award multiple times. He joins Patrick Mahomes, Kurt Warner, Steve Young, Joe Montana, Jim Brown, Brett Favre, Johnny Unitas, Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, and Peyton Manning.

Manning has won the most MVPs in NFL history with five, and Rodgers comes in right behind with four himself. Brady, Unitas, Favre, and Brown have all won three, while the remaining five quarterbacks have all won two. Brown is the only non-quarterback on this list after he won that award with the Cleveland Browns in 1957, 1958, and 1965.

Jackson not only won another MVP award on Thursday, but he became the youngest player to win two in NFL history. At 27 years old, the Ravens quarterback has already collected two MVPs and is certainly on track to be selected in the Hall of Fame one day when his career is all set and done. He'll need to win some Super Bowls to solidify himself in Canton, though, winning two MVPs is not an easy thing to do.

Of the 11 players that have won multiple MVPs, seven are currently in the Hall of Fame. Brady, who retired just last year, will be a first-ballot selection in 2018, while Rodgers and Mahomes are both well on their way to making the Hall of Fame after their careers are over. That leaves just Jackson, who still has plenty left to prove in his young career.
