When Will Jerick McKinnon Return and Be Back? Fantasy Football Injury Update

Jerick McKinnon - Fantasy Football Rankings, Waiver Wire Pickups, Draft Sleepers

When will Jerick McKinnon return and play? Will Jerick McKinnon be back again this season? Read the latest Jerick McKinnon injury updates and return date for Week 17 (2023).

Kansas City Chiefs running back Jerick McKinnon didn't play in his team's 20-14 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 16. He is sidelined due to a groin injury and has already missed three games this season.

McKinnon is one of the most important players on the Chiefs' offense, as he is a valuable commodity in both the running and passing games. During his absence, Isiah Pacheco stepped in alongside Clyde Edwards-Helaire, but unfortunately, the former also got hurt during the game.

How serious is McKinnon's injury? When will he return to play this season? Let's take a look at his status.

Jerick McKinnon Injury Update for Fantasy Football

Ahead of the game against the Raiders, the Chiefs placed Jerick McKinnon on injured reserve. He will miss all of the remaining games of the regular season as well as the first-round playoff game.

His absence is quite upsetting for the Chiefs, as their offense has already looked quite miserable this season. The Patrick Mahomes-led offense is just averaging 22.2 points per game this season and has already lost six games.

It was expected that Pacheco would get an increased workload in McKinnon's absence, but with him also out due to a concussion, the team will rely on Edwards-Helaire and La'Mical Perine next week against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Jerick McKinnon Fantasy Football Outlook

In 12 games this season, McKinnon has rushed for just 60 yards on 21 carries and one rushing touchdown. He also has 25 receptions for 192 yards and four touchdowns on 32 targets.

The 31-year-old running back was a reliable target for Mahomes in the passing game, and given his experience, he usually elevated the players around him. It will be interesting to see how the Chiefs fare without their two leading backs going forward.

As for fantasy managers, McKinnon will not be able to contribute anymore this season. He finished this campaign with a total of 71.9 fantasy points in half-PPR-scoring leagues while averaging six points per game.
