Kirk Cousins Injury Update for Fantasy Football
Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins suffered an Achilles on Sunday. The team has an MRI scheduled to confirm, but it would be a surprise if that MRI tells us anything different.
Unfortunately for Cousins and the Vikings, torn Achilles aren't injuries that a player comes back from quickly. His 2023 season is over, and there's no guarantee that Cousins will be ready for the start of the 2024 season.
There's also no guarantee that Cousins will be a Viking in 2024. This is the final season of Cousins' contract with the Vikings. He'll either need to sign a new deal with the team this offseason or find a new home. 2024 will be his age-36 season, so there's no guarantee that Kirk Cousins will find a starting role in the NFL again. He'll need to hope a quarterback-needy team can't find a long-term solution this offseason.
Kirk Cousins Fantasy Football Outlook
At this point, it's impossible to determine what Cousins' fantasy value going forward is. We don't know where he'll play next season. We don't know if he'll start wherever he ends up. We don't know if he'll recover from the Achilles injury fast enough to be ready for Week 1.
As for the Vikings, former BYU quarterback Jaren Hall took over after Cousins exited. The rookie was 3-for-4 for 23 yards in relief of Cousins, but he didn't need to do much with the Vikings leading late. He was expected to be the team's starting quarterback.
Then came the trade deadline, as the Vikings traded for Cardinals quarterback Joshua Dobbs. It appears the team is hoping Dobbs can provide solid leadership the rest of the way. He's a solid QB2 option for fantasy football.
