All-In-One MLB DFS Staff Picks and Analysis 10/23/23 (Premium Content)

All other Premium Tools can be accessed on the premium dashboard.

Happy Monday, RotoBallers! Today is the final two-game slate of the 2023 MLB DFS season. One of Texas or Houston will advance to the World Series tonight after their Game 7 showdown. Meanwhile, Philadelphia tries to keep its undefeated home record intact and make its second consecutive World Series by closing out Arizona.

Today's action starts at 5:07 PM EST with the sixth game of the NLCS between the Phillies and Diamondbacks. Then, the slate wraps up at 8:03 PM EST as the Astros and Rangers conclude their ALCS playoff battle. Good luck with your contests!

Top Pitchers for 10/23/23

Each day, we try to give you some pitchers to target at each price tier, starting with the more expensive pitchers you're likely to use in cash games, followed by cheaper arms that might be used at SP2 on DraftKings or GPPs.

Aaron Nola ($8,700 DraftKings; $10,300 FanDuel) vs. Diamondbacks

Going back to the regular season, Aaron Nola scored at least 21 DraftKings points in five straight starts. In the postseason, the right-handed hurler averages 26.4 DK PPG and has a chance to get Philadelphia back to the World Series. Nola dominated the Diamondbacks in Game 2 with six innings of shutout baseball, where he allowed three hits and struck out 10. The veteran is expensive on FanDuel, but he's the pitcher most likely to qualify for a Quality Start.

Cristian Javier ($7,300 DK; $9,600 FD) vs. Rangers

It wasn't a pretty regular season for Cristian Javier, but he's becoming a bit of a postseason legend with his performances. In his Game 3 start, El Reptil gave Houston five 2/3 innings in a must-win situation while striking out three and limiting Texas to two earned runs. With it being a Game 7, any early signs of trouble could result in an early yanking, but his $7,300 price tag on DraftKings would soften that blow.

Top Hitters for 10/23/23

Corey Seager ($6,200 DK; $4,400 FD) at Cristian Javier

After a reasonably quiet ALDS and the first three games of the ALCS, Corey Seager has awoken from his slumber. A Game 4 home run was only his second extra-base hit since the Wild Card round, and he followed it up with another double in Game 5. The road team has won every game of this series so far, so the smart money would be to roll with a Rangers win. They've managed to snag three wins without Seager's help so far but will need one of their best hitters to step up to make the World Series.

Kyle Schwarber ($5,000 DK; $4,200 FD) vs. Merrill Kelly

You don't sit a player like Kyle Schwarber with how he sees and mashes the baseball. The Phillies slugger has five home runs in this NLCS, and his 11 career home runs in this round are the all-time record. The left-handed hitter also owns the record for most home runs hit by a lefty with 20 and can add to that total against Merrill Kelly on Monday night. In the 2023 playoffs, Schwarber has a 1.057 OPS with nine runs, five long balls, and six RBI.

Other options: Bryce Harper, Yordan Alvarez, Jose Altuve, Trea Turner, Adolis Garcia

Value Picks for 10/23/23

Mitch Garver ($3,500 DK; $2,900 FD) at Cristian Javier

FanDuel projects Mitch Garver as the eighth hitter in the Texas lineup, but he's batted fifth in three of the last five games. Plus, he's likely sticking in that role after his Game 6 performance. The designated hitter went 3-for-4 with a double, a home run, two runs, and two RBI for 34.4 FD points.

Mauricio Dubon ($2,700 DK; $2,800 FD) at Max Scherzer

Mauricio Dubon is an excellent DFS asset despite lacking power because he makes many lineup constructions work. At $2,700 on DK, it's a lot easier to fit in those heavy hitters as long as Dubon gets the starting nod. He took back a starting role in Game 3 and hasn't relinquished it since. He does have some speed, so Dusty Baker may want to use him in a pinch-runner situation and start Chas McCormick instead. As a result, keep an eye out for the Houston starting lineup.

Other options: Nathaniel Lowe, Gabriel Moreno, Leody Taveras, Brandon Marsh, Alec Bohm

Top Tournament Stacks for 10/23/23

This section will highlight the top tournament lineup stacks of the day (depending on the size of the slate) and help you identify the pitchers that are best suited to pick on if you are using this strategy.

  1. Astros vs. Max Scherzer (5.1 implied runs)
  2. Rangers at Cristian Javier (4.7 implied runs)
  3. Phillies vs. Merrill Kelly (4.6 implied runs)

Fade of the Day for 10/23/23

Max Scherzer ($8,500 DK; $8,500 FD) at Astros

A 39-year-old pitcher who's thrown 63 competitive pitches since September 13 is not someone we should trust in our DFS lineups. Max Scherzer started Game 3 of the ALCS and was thoroughly battered by the Houston hitters for five earned runs across four innings. While his cheap price on FanDuel makes him a little more tempting, the safety and upside of Aaron Nola or Cristian Javier means we can leave Scherzer on the sidelines.
