Washington Capitals defenseman Joel Edmundson underwent a procedure to stabilize his fractured hand on Tuesday and is expected to miss the next four-to-six weeks. The veteran blueliner was injured in a scrimmage on Sunday and has been unable to return to the ice and seemingly won't do so for at least a couple of weeks. Acquired from the Canadiens on July 1 in exchange for a third and seventh-round draft pick, Edmundson registered two goals and 11 points while averaging 19:34 of ice time per game across 61 contests in Montreal last season. An eight-year NHL veteran, Edmundson is likely to return to bottom-pair minutes with the Capitals when ready.--Brenton Kemp
