Fantasy Baseball Impact Of Jarred Kelenic Heading To The IL
The Seattle Mariners placed outfielder Jarred Kelenic on the 10-day injured list on Thursday due to a left foot fracture, per a tweet from the team’s official public relations Twitter account.
Before the injury, the 24-year-old was hitting .252 with a .320 on-base percentage, 11 home runs, and 12 stolen bases in 362 plate appearances. In his place, the American League West club will turn to Cade Marlow as part of their outfield group.
The 26-year-old has played for Seattle’s Triple-A affiliate in Tacoma this year, hitting .255 with a .332 on-base percentage, 11 home runs, and 25 stolen bases in 319 plate appearances, though his wRC+ was just 86 in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League.
While it remains to be seen just how much the rookie will play, he does have a history of stealing bases at a high rate in the minors. In 120 games at Double-A last season, the outfielder stole 36 bases before swiping six more in 13 games with Tacoma.
For now, he’s likely only an option in deeper fantasy leagues with 14 or more teams considering the other outfield options in Seattle. Julio Rodriguez obviously remains entrenched in center field as the team’s starter there, but the Mariners also have Teoscar Hernandez, Dylan Moore, and AJ Pollock in the corner outfield mix, although none of the group have logged a wRC+ north of 100 so far. They still could hurt Marlow’s chances for playing time moving forward.
