Tyler Glasnow Injury Update

Tampa Bay Rays right-hander Tyler Glasnow is in line to open up on the mound for the team to start the second half of the season on Friday against the Kansas City Royals. Glasnow left his final start of the first half early on July 7 against the Atlanta Braves due to cramps in his hand and legs, but it was nothing serious and he'll be ready to roll to kick off the weekend series against KC after having the All-Star break to rest up.

Against one of the weaker hitting teams in the big leagues, the 29-year-old will be a must-start in fantasy lineups as he kicks off the second half. Glasnow was on a nice little run to end the first half and is currently 2-3 with a 4.10 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 64 strikeouts in 41 2/3 innings over his eight starts in 2023. (MLB.com)

Max Fried Injury Update

tlanta Braves left-hander Max Fried (forearm) will make his second minor-league rehab start for Double-A Rome on Saturday. Fried made his first rehab start with Triple-A Gwinnett last week and gave up one hit while walking two and striking out one in 1 1/3 scoreless innings.

The 29-year-old southpaw should go a little deeper in Saturday's start, and barring any setbacks, he's expected to rejoin Atlanta's starting rotation as their ace by the end of July. Fried has only made five starts due to injuries so far in 2023, but he's been his normal ace-like self when on the mound, posting a 2.08 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 25 strikeouts in 26 innings pitched. He'll return to being a must-start each time he takes the mound once he rejoins the Braves.

Jordan Montgomery Injury Update

St. Louis Cardinals left-hander Jordan Montgomery (hamstring) will not start in the first series of the second half of the season this weekend against the Washington Nationals after leaving his start last Friday against the Chicago White Sox with a right-hamstring injury. Instead, right-hander Miles Mikolas will go on Friday, left-hander Steven Matz will start on Saturday and right-hander Jack Flaherty will toe the rubber on Sunday.

Montgomery is a prime trade candidate this month because of the fact that he'll be a free agent after this season, but the 30-year-old southpaw will need to get back on the mound before interested teams feel comfortable trading for him. Montgomery was solid in the first half with a 3.23 ERA (3.52 FIP), 1.22 WHIP, 27 walks and 96 K's in 18 starts (103 innings).

Jose Urquidy Injury Update

Houston Astros right-hander Jose Urquidy (shoulder) will start a minor-league rehab assignment with Triple-A Sugar Land on Friday. Urquidy will take the next step toward returning from the injured list after throwing a live batting practice session on Sunday. The 28-year-old starting pitcher has been sidelined since early May due to right-shoulder inflammation, so he'll need at least several rehab starts in the minors before he's ready to return to Houston's starting rotation.

Barring a setback, Urquidy should be back in the big leagues before the end of July. He's not nearly as dominant as some of the other pitchers in the Astros' rotation, though, and he'll be returning to a 5.20 ERA (5.63 FIP), 1.55 WHIP, 10 walks and 23 strikeouts in 27 2/3 innings over just six starts.

Anthony DeSclafani Injury Update

San Francisco Giants right-handers Anthony DeSclafani (shoulder) and Luke Jackson (back) are both starting their minor-league rehab assignments on Thursday in the Rookie-level Arizona Complex League. As long as DeSclafani doesn't have any setbacks with his right shoulder on Thursday, he should be set to return to the team's starting rotation at some point next week after being out since early July with right-shoulder fatigue.

The 33-year-old hurler will be a streaming option in deep-mixed leagues after going 4-8 with a 4.44 ERA (4.12 FIP), 1.19 WHIP, 18 walks and 72 strikeouts in 17 starts (93 1/3 innings) before his injury. Jackson, who has been out since late June with a lower-back strain, should be able to rejoin San Fran's bullpen next week as well.

Nick Anderson Injury Update

The Atlanta Braves placed right-hander Nick Anderson (shoulder) on the 60-day injured list (retroactive to July 8) with a right-shoulder strain on Thursday to open up a spot on the 40-man roster for outfielder Dalton Guthrie, who was claimed off waivers from the San Francisco Giants. Guthrie was optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett. It's a tough break for Anderson, who had been valuable this year in fantasy leagues that count holds.

The 33-year-old reliever had posted a solid 3.06 ERA (3.11 FIP), 1.10 WHIP, one save, nine walks and 36 strikeouts in 35 1/3 relief innings in his first year in Atlanta. Anderson now won't be available to return to the Braves until September.
