The Boston Red Sox drafted catcher Kyle Teel from the University of Virginia with the 14th pick of the first round of the 2023 MLB draft. Teel withdrew from the 2020 draft as a high school player as he was dedicated to his commitment to Virginia. Teel is widely considered the top available college catcher in the 2023 draft after earning All-American honors and the ACC player of the year award with a .407/.475/.655 line. Teel is going to need to work on his overall catching defense, but he is very athletic, having played multiple outfield slots as well as working behind the plate.--Benjamin Chase
