One of the bigger surprises in the field this week, Victor Perez, is taking a break from his traditional full-time DP World Tour schedule to tee it up at the Valspar Championship at Innisbrook Resort. The 30-year-old Frenchman has reached a peak world ranking of 29th and has made waves in limited starts on the PGA Tour before, most notably finishing fourth at the 2021 WGC-Match Play and ninth at the 2021 PLAYERS Championship. Perez will be making his first-ever start at the Valspar this week, but he has already won one of the DP World Tour's marquee events this past January at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship. For a player of such pedigree, Perez is going largely unnoticed in one of the weaker PGA Tour fields of the season. With his well-traveled game, it would not surprise us one bit to see him find his way onto another leaderboard come Sunday afternoon.--Ian McNeill - RotoBaller
