Three top fantasy baseball prospects - Samuel Basallo, Spencer, Jones, Kristian Campbell - that can make big impacts. These MLB prospects are waiver wire pickups or stashes.
During the first half of the baseball season, fantasy managers saw several high-end hitting prospects make an immediate impact in the big leagues. Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Chandler Simpson and Athletics first baseman Nick Kurtz flashed elite speed and power, respectively, and have emerged as must-start players.
In this piece, we will look at two of the top prospects at Triple-A and one prospect who has already been given a short look in the big leagues and determine if they should remain on our bench. Two of these hitters have been flashing immense power upside at the top level of the minor leagues and could even make their debut before the end of the month.
Should those players be left on the waiver wire, or should fantasy managers add them before their breakout? Let's dive in!

Samuel Basallo, C/1B, Baltimore Orioles
Current Level: AAA
Availability: 15% rostered
2025 AAA Stats: 62 G, .264.383/.591, 11 2B, 19 HR, 0 SB
FREE SAMUEL BASALLO! What does he have to do to get the call to the majors? The Orioles appear to be unwilling to give him time behind the plate in the majors, as they've had catcher after catcher go on the IL.
Could Basallo's path to the majors happen following a Ryan O'Hearn trade? It's no surprise that the Orioles will be selling at the deadline, and there are a lot of teams that will be calling about the All-Star DH.
Basallo is having a great season at Triple-A, all at the age of 20. He has a 153 WRC+ with 19 HRs. He also has a great plate approach as he's only striking out 21.7 percent of the time and walking 15.4 percent of the time.
Samuel Basallo should get the call anytime soon. The 20-year-old has posted some of the best numbers in AAA.

If Basallo gets the call and is not expected to catch, that could actually be huge for his fantasy value in redraft. He'll be catcher eligible but won't have to deal with the physical and mental rigors of playing catcher at the major league level. Instead, he can focus solely on mashing.
He should be viewed as a top 10 catcher when he gets the call to the majors, with the upside to be in the top five soon.

Spencer Jones, OF, New York Yankees
Current Level: AAA
Availability: 5% rostered
2025 AAA stats: 14 G, .362/.426/.776, 3 2B, 7 HR, 6 SB
So, can Spencer Jones play third base? I kid, but that would solve a lot of problems for the Yankees.
Even though he's still struggling with strikeouts, his production in the minors this season has been undeniably good, and the Yankees might need to find a way to get him a major league opportunity.
Jones had an absurd 186 WRC+ with 16 HRs in 208 PAs at Double-A before getting the call to Triple-A. He's been even better since getting promoted, as he has a 202 WRC+ with seven HRs in only 68 PAs.
The @Yankees' Minor League home run leader keeps on chugging 🚂

His K-rate has also been a much more palatable 29.4 percent in Triple-A compared to 33.7 percent in Double-A.
This is a great sign for the top-hitting prospect in the Yankee system, as he struggled in the minor leagues last season. Through 122 games with Double-A Somerset, the slugger posted a modest .259/.336/.452 line with an alarming 200:54 K:BB.
If Jones gets an opportunity in the Bronx (or perhaps on another team...), you can expect big power with a questionable batting average. However, if he keeps the K's in check, he may have the most power upside still in the minors. If you are looking for a power boost, keep a close eye on Jones as he could make his debut in the coming weeks.
Fantasy managers in points leagues should add Jones with caution, given his hefty strikeout rate.

Kristian Campbell, 2B/OF, Boston Red Sox
Current Level: AAA
Availability: 15% rostered
2025 MLB Stats: 67 G, .223/.319/.345, 10 2B, 6 HR, 2 SB
The final prospect we will look at in this piece is Boston Red Sox infielder/outfielder Kristian Campbell. Unlike the other names on this list, Campbell has already received a taste of the big leagues. Campbell emerged as an early-season AL Rookie of the Year finalist as he posted an impressive .287/.388/.460 line in April.
However, following his strong start, the former top prospect took a significant step back, posting a much lower .159/.243/.222 slash line with just four total extra-base hits through May and June. This slump resulted in his demotion. However, while the transaction appeared to be performance-based, the Red Sox noted that Campbell would begin to see time at first base during his stint in Triple-A Worcester.
Kristian Campbell is one of the most impressive prospects we will ever see.
The 22 year old is slashing:
.417 / 2 HR / 4 RBI / 1.333 OPS
5 K : 4 BBHas an ELITE hit tool, oh and his AAV over the next 8 years is $7.5 Million.

Since returning to the top level of the Boston system, Campbell has led with a .200/.373/.323 line, a 28:15 K:BB, three doubles, one triple, and one long ball. Seeing him begin to learn a new position is a great sign for his rest-of-season outlook.
With the Red Sox relying on a mix of Abraham Toro and Romy Gonzalez at first base, Campbell could easily emerge as their go-to option as they pursue a spot in the postseason.
Given his high prospect pedigree and impressive start to the season, Campbell should be viewed as a priority hitter prospect to stash going forward. Campbell could be in the midst of returning to Boston before the end of the month. He would carry even more value as he gains first base ability to pair with his second base and outfield eligibility.
He is a solid stash option in all standard 12-team formats.
