2023 NFL Draft Predictions - New York Giants Biggest Team Needs

Saquon Barkley - Fantasy Football Rankings, NFL Injury News, DFS Lineup Picks

2023 NFL Draft outlook, predictions and team needs for the New York Giants. Which positions do the need the most help in? Which players might they choose?

After ending the 2021 season with a 4-13 record, the New York Giants made massive changes in the offseason. They hired Joe Schoen as their new general manager and Brian Daboll as their new head coach.

In their first year together in New York, they led the team to a 9-7-1 record and their first playoff appearance since 2016. Furthermore, the Giants won their first playoff game since 2011 after defeating the Minnesota Vikings, 31-24.

Unfortunately, New York was no match for the division rival Philadelphia Eagles. The Giants struggled on both sides of the ball, losing 38-7. The team will have the 25th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.

What Are The New York Giants Biggest Needs On Offense?

Before Daboll got to New York, Daniel Jones was considered a draft bust. However, the former first-round pick had the best year of his career in 2022 despite a lack of weapons in the passing game.

New York lost Sterling Shepard and Wan'Dale Robinson to season-ending injuries this season. The one bright spot at wide receiver was Isaiah Hodgins. He led the team in receiving touchdowns this year despite playing only eight games with New York.

Even with Hodgins and the return of Robinson in 2023, the Giants need to add an impact No. 1 wide receiver. Some potential first-round options include USC’s Jordan Addison and Ohio State’s Jaxon Smith-Njigba.

What Are The New York Giants Biggest Needs On Defense?

While Daboll deserves every ounce of credit he gets, defensive coordinator Wink Martindale is why the defense turned around this season. In 2021, the Giants gave up 24.5 points per game. This year, that number dropped to 21.8 points per game despite facing several explosive offenses.

New York has several linebackers players set to hit the free agent market this offseason. While the team spent a pair of Day 3 picks on Micah McFadden and Darrian Beavers last year, that shouldn’t stop them from adding a linebacker early in the 2023 NFL Draft.

The Giants likely won’t use their first-round pick on defense, as a wide receiver is the team’s top need. However, they should draft a linebacker in the second or third round. One potential target is Oregon’s Noah Sewell. The Duck linebacker had 218 tackles in his college career, including 20.5 for a loss.
